Finally made my first trip out Thursday evening. Still a complete noob with a trotline and went out with 2 others who had no idea what we were doing. Used cinderblocks for weights, year old frozen chicken necks, and a handmade net made from an old fence- on about 250 feet of line (40 chicken necks total) on the joppatowne side of maxwell point on a low tide. (like I said-we had no idea what we were doing) We got 8 jumbo crabs in about 1 hour just before dark then headed home and steamed them-THEY WERE GREAT!!!. Could not believe how easy it was. Next time out we will go early and watch the tides.
Some notes: LOTS of pots on the Joppatowne side of the Bridge/Bird River
More grass/seaweed on bottom than usual.
From Wednesday:
Blues and Rockfish (little guys-like 7-10 inchers) are about 30 yards off the shore on the bay side of maxwell point. Not big but fun to cast and catch a million times with kids.
About 7 boats crabbing-2 big commercial type and 5...hmmmm... out of staters who didn't know any better ? Or 5 commercial guys who use really really small boats? I wonder-LOL
