Was out in the Middle river area yesterday from sun-up to 10:30, managed a nice bushel, lots of mature girls and immature crabs went back which is great.
But what really made my day (and dug up some awesome memories of my childhood) was two young men (teenagers) that were crabbing near me.... This is how it all went down....
Was crabbing next to my bro (commercial guy) and about 8:00 a 14' run-about came up near us and started dropping rings/traps on top my bro's line. I was close so I went over to nicely tell them about it and they started picking up and moved off a safe/legal distance.... They just didn't know where my bro's lay was, honest mistake.... Well, these two boys looked about 14, both wearing their PFD's, laid their gear out in a perfect straight line, evenly spaced and proceeded to run their line like they had been doing it 50 years. No goofing off, they were very safe and courteous of others. I talked to them again later in the morning, they were polite and respectful. They had a huge responsibility of operating that boat by themselves, and they nailed it !!! My father taught me and my brothers the same way and now in my 40's those lessons live with me every day. THANKS DAD !
A HUGE KUDO'S to those young men and their parents/teachers. Any parent would have been proud of them. It was a pleasure to share the water with them. Hope they did well, they deserved it.
