A friend of mine caught this fish last weekend at North Topsail Beach. Can anyone identify it? I have looked on the NCDMF site fishfinder and can't determine what it is? Don't know if it is edible or not.

Well....part of the head is missing in the photo but it sure looks like a ladyfish to me. They do tend to come north in late summer. Not many but some. Not considered edible but loads of fun on light tackle.

I believe your right. I seen it the day after and you know how fish can change after being dead and in ice. Dang, my wife usually cuts the head off in pictures...LOL We did fillet the fish but haven't cooked them yet. Had some blues and spots and 1 flounder with this fish. I think maybe we should discard this one. Thanks for the posts.

Caught a bunch of 'em while down @ S Padre Island last Oct.

Big fun.....they’re fast, pull hard, and do aerial maneuvers. You know why they’re called ladyfish?? ‘Cause they’re fun, they’ll grab anything shiny, and fun on your rod!

(ok....I’m ducking and running now!!:helpsmilie: Jeez....hope the wife doesn’t read this...)
