Spot are pretty thick right now -- shore anglers are filling coolers using bloodworms, but they're not all that big -- it won't bother me if you catch all you want; I think of 'em as bait, not a target species, but that's just me. Lots of small bluefish around, too. On moving tides and especially in the evening, you have a more than reasonable chance of success casting for schoolie stripers (and you'll almost certainly get bit by the small blues while doing so). There are still croakers around, but you'll need to fish deeper or after dark... have both bait shrimp and squid on hand. I have seen keeper flounder from neighbors drifting bucktails tipped with bull minnows, so there are some, but that's rather uncommon.

I normally don't even start fishing till 90 minutes or so before sunset... unless it's full slack low, I can generally count on double-digits of croaker with a few small blues mixed in (and the occassional spot no matter how I try to avoid them) any given evening, even just fishing from shore. I can't speak to the Spanish, except to say that I don't troll and haven't had any incidental catches.

Top water in the mornings and evenings for Rock. The bigger the plug, the bigger the fish. Look for structure!

there are spot to be had for sure. I am in DE for a week and have not fished in 2. last time i fished i caught all the croakers and spot i cared to with fish bites and squid. then it was 17-13 feet, hard bottom. search around with ff and you should find them easy. when i would drift shallower the perch would cover me up.

when i went back out at night on a kyak the larger croakers slammed the squid. i had to go from 2 rods to one.

Good size spot from the 301 bridge to St Clements Island, and most any other place in the river. . Blood worm fish bites will catch all you could want. An underrated fish. Fun to catch on light tackle, and very popular at the dinner table to many.
Save a few and try live lining at Carters Lumps near Swann Point. Productive way to catch
some keeper rock, and even some large catfish.
