Alright, so I just had the carbs rebuilt last week after buying to motor a few weeks ago. Took it out and it ran up to 42mph @ 5,000rpm, beautiful. I was mainly running it at about 28mph cruising around for an hour just shaking everything out. So I kick it back up to 5,000 for a minute here and there. The motor all of a sudden decreased power down to about 20mph and 3,000rpm. So I idled around for a while and gently gave it juice. It would run a bit and then slow down. I noticed the pee water was pretty hot coming out - not burn you hot but hot.

Took back out today and it ran abour 10-15 minutes before the same problem. It is not acting like the carbs did a couple weeks ago, because I could not get anything out of it above 3,000rpm before the carbs were rebuilt.

Is there any sensor or something that is slowing it down before overheating? Anyone run into this before? Dropped back off at Gates Marine this afternoon and was planning to call them tomorrow.

Thanks,

Mike

Are you running ethanol gas? Do you have a water separating fuel filter? If you are using ethanol gas, has the motor been upgraded to have all the rubber (that would be all the fuel carrying hoses--presumably the carb rebuild put the right parts in the carbs) parts of the fuel system to be ethanol resistant?

I did replace all of the hoses a few weeks ago. I do not have a water separator on it though. I will look into that item as well.

Something is leaning me to the thermostat though.

suzuki (even the older ones) moniter EVERYTHING even water level in the engine... if anything out of the ordinary happens it will reduce rpms and put the engine into "limp home mode".. check t-stats, impeller, and the PITA water level sensor " duck bill" that is mounts into the head cover near the spark plugs should be a tan wire if i remember correctly... just my .02

I wouldn't run an outboard these days without a water separating fuel filter. They have kept me from being towed in a twin engine boat at least twice, and that was in the days before ethanol gas. Very cheap insurance, I like the Racors with the plastic sump, I would install it where you can see it and check it for water and sediment every trip.

well apparently it is the coil on the third cyliner breaking down. that's the good news. the bad news is the coil is on national backorder whatever that means.

the fall fishing may be over for me before it begins.
