Just curious. I have seen the posts mentioning sloughing tanks and techniques...... Is it legal for Recs to keep peelers?? The State Regulations Web site references keeping softcrabs, but does not appear to address peelers from what I can find.
Thanks, Mark

DNR outlawed it for recs last year.

Anglers can have as many female peelers as they wish. But they must buy them, not catch them.

can't keep female peelers in the Chesapeake or it's tribs. recs can keep any legal female in the coastal bays.

Although it would be unethical and no one should, how the heck would the NRP know wether you caught them or bought them?

a receipt would prove nothing since peelers can be frozen and kept for months. That part of the law doesn't appear to be enforceable unless they witness you harvesting the peelers. Just FYI it probably wouldn't be a good idea to buy them and
besides, it's the job of NRP to write citations based on probable cause. Not having a receipt for bait might look suspicious, but certainly isn't probable cause. In court that officer would need to prove you caught them, you wouldn't have to prove your innocence...

Well i read all about the receipt thing and guess i have been lucky as the woman at Solomons ramp sold me bait, including a few peelers twice, and no receipt. Whats up wit that?

I hear you ! Just passing along the info I heard about the rules. I don't necessarily agree with or think they are useful...

Does anyone know what the fine is for getting caught with an illegal/undocumented peeler on the boat? If not, I'll let you all know if/when I get caught...

If you cant catch and keep female peelers, you shouldnt be able to buy or sell them for bait as well.
Another great idea from the "turning mind gears" at the MDDNR!!!
Ranks up there with "latent effort"
