78 starcraft project floor ques.

need to replace the floor in my 78 alumnium starcraft was looking for some info before i get started

#1 how does the deck attatch to the stringers? self tapping screws? do i need to seal the wood iam just going to put the carpet back on just just looking for some info before i get started

I am relying on my memory from a good while ago, but as I recall the floor was held in place by ss bolts around the edges. I don't recall anything about the attachment to the stringers, so I suspect that it was the same.

One thing I do distinctly remember was loose rivet repair. We replaced the floor because we had to pull it up to repair about a half a dozen loose rivets. The boat would take on 4 or 5 gallons of water per hour just sitting at anchor. I was amazed that by holding a hammer on the inside of the boat and hitting the rivet with a hammer from the outside, plus a coat of Glovit the problem was 100% fixed.

I was never sure if it was just the hammering or the Glovit that did the job, but I never expected it to work so well. I kept the boat another 5 or 6 years and it never took on another drop of water.

I'l have to try that.I recently bought a 16ft. Starcraft jet boat that the guy says leaks a bit.

i was thinking of useing a aliumnium roofing type rubber? wonder if that would work might as well coat it while its ripped up ill have to look up glove it never heard of it.

You want to coat the wood on both sides or you will be doing this repair again.

the floor was rivitted on my 81, its a pain and a mess to replace. I used treated plywood was still solid 8 years later when I sold it. I fastened the new floor with stainless screws.

yea iam thinking treated plywood, ill coat it both sides with sonthing? dont know what yet then screw it down thanks for the replys
