The Macs are still at Windmill point but not as thick as they were a couple of weeks ago. I headed out this morning just before sunrise with my son. The weather was okay with winds moderate. We got rained on for about an hour then the sun was out then rain again. Very manageable weather given what was predicted. We had a couple of Macs early in the boat before we cleared the point coming out of the Rapp on #1 and #2 planers, gold and silver Clarks. We wandered north up the bay and had two huge strikes that tore through 50 lb. leaders. Would have liked to have seen them. Circled back but nothing there. Headed back to the point and hooked up another 3-4 Macs. We were one of only two boats early and only a handfull by the time we left at 11:00 am. We had plenty of fish to take home for our two families and called it a day. Hope you all took the chance to go out this morning.

Thanks for the report. I hope to give the macs one more try this week. I wonder what cut you off - big blues perhaps?

Wished I could have seen them surface. We were cruising at between 7.5 and 8 mph so that is usually too fast for blues we have been catching. I could only grab one rod at a time and the first one was ripping drag out for about 5 seconds before it ate through/broke the leader. The Macs and taylor blues we have been catching don't do that and by the time I grabbed the second rod it was bit clean too. We were using the 4 hook mackerel teaser rigs and they were bit clean between the last hook and the clark spoon. A good fish story anyway and only cost me a couple of spoons. If they were blues they were definitely bigger than any we had caught. Forgot to mention the Dolphin show we watched too. As we were trolling north up the bay about 2 dozen Dolphin were heading into the mouth of the Rapp and it was crazy watching them jump in the air like a show at Sea World! Wished we could have caught that on video. It chased the fish out from reports we heard on the radio but by the time we circled back we hooked up again. I'm sure we'll be out again this weekend as the weather is forecasted to be nice.

We had a similar experience last week, in a hurry getting the mac spread out and had the drag too tight on one rod. Don't think it was the bottom, (#1 planer in 40') ran out to the side then broke off a 40lb braid.

We had been in a large pod of dolphin about 30 mins earlier and my son is convienced it was one of them.

Glad the macs are still around, hope this cool weather doesn't change that.

Might be a big red hanging out on the bar, they are caught there about this time each year.
