first i would like to thank everyone for the help with my father in law transfering his liscience.i called the # and was helped right away.now, i still am undecided on wether to freeze or not to freeze the liscience.my question is what do you guys think?should i freeze or do the male only?his liscience is considered inactive.if i freeze i cant crab until crabbing meets dnrs standards for 3 yrs .but after that 3 yrs the liscience will go back to a regular liscience where i could keep females and males and it will be transferable again.now if i do the second option i can only keep males but the liscience is non transferable.and i could crab now.just wanted to know what you guys would do.i always get great advice here so i figured i would ask you guys.was leaning towards freezing it but what if crabbing never meets dnr standards in the future.then im screwed.any advice would be greatly appreciated.thanks again.

If they keep the female restrictions that are in place today (rec and comm) for a couple more years, you may see a rebound. Whether it reaches DNR goals is hard to tell. The other thing that you have to consider is the increase in the number of recreational crabbers. (Up by 10,000 from just 10 years ago) If that trend continues unchecked, nothing the DNR does will save the crabs.

If you don't plan on crabbing for the next 5 years, I would say freeze. Will you crab enough in your life time to make enough money to pay for the license. Use $25 per bushel as a profit margin. If you can resell the license later, you can regain some of the cost of the license. Lastly, do you have any children that you would like to leave the license to. Once altered, I don't believe that you will able to leave it to anyone.

it's a hard discision i'm glad i don't have to make . don't trust dnr to reactivate the frozen lcc's ever. every new restriction put on comm. lic to help the crab population has never been lifted ,even when it did'nt work. if you want the lic to make $$ it's a tough game if you want it to crab more thats fine to. the money in crabbing is in the male crab mostly.

Just go crab!

The people buying from you aint gonna know whether or not your license is frozen. You still have your card.

I think the DNR has some ba llz, freezing licenses and telling people what they can and cant keep without no police to enforce any of it.

I agree with redbeard. Once that freeze is put on, its never coming off.

I just transfered lcc from a relative under the same issues. They still ask for a beneficiary for it and sia nothing is finalized yet. They said i would get a noitice in the mail in the fall.I would love to be able to give it to my kids later in life but i don't trust the freeze.Read the fine print it says 3 yrs or until crabs rebound to a sustainable level. Well what is a sustainable level?? If you want a liscense to give your kids use sell the crabs save the money and buy one not on the freeze.
