Flyfishing Germany Sept 9th.

Today was yet another reminder that you do not have to
travel hundred of miles to have good fishing.
Actually today should have been a non-flyfishing day.
The plan was to fish with sweetcorn and a float for a chance.

Joop in action with a matchrod, centrepin reel and a piece of sweetcorn

When I came at the river I came to the conclusion that the most
vital part for conventional fishing was missing, I left the reel at home.
Still had the fly gear with me and after a slow start I worked it out
what the fish wanted.

Roach

Today menu was pheasant tail nymph, almost every cast yielded fish.
I caught the whole shiner spectrum from chub, dace to roach.
The species missing was trout but my buddy who was fishing with his
Traditional Match rod and centre pin reel caught one on .. ahum sweetcorn.

Thanks for the interesting report of all your recent exploits. I'm really impressed with the size of the trout and of course, with the variety of fish you've caught overall.

I caught some nice chub in my day - usually I'm a little embarrassed when I land them - but they are great dry fly action and when they are big they will eat a bass popper!

I always enjoy reading about fishing on your side of the big pond. When I first took up flyfishing various native fish like chubs, shiners and fallfish similar in size to those in your pictures saved me from many fishless days on trout streams but more importantly helped me become better at hook setting while nymphing.

I am not picky about the fish I catch, if they take the fly than it is ok for me.
Trout season is about to end down here anyway so in a month or so we will
be changing over to the fishery on pike and yellow perch.

I still have one major trip left before the year ends.
Would have liked to fish beautifull Rhode Island for stripers and blues but
the stay was a killer of my already low budget.
Hard to believe but for me it is cheaper to head to Florida than New England.
Oh well, just have to settle for Snook then.

Before I forget ... there are no fish in Rhode Island :D
