Ok, so I know I ALWAYS post the question about high water when they call for high tides. But... if anyone could assure me that my boat on a lift on windmill is ok, I'd sleep alot better tonight. Thanks. :boat:

Where is your boat on Windmill? I am on Antipoison Creek and water has not been extremely high. I guess it depends how high your lift is. I haven't seen any boats on lifts threatened as of today. A lot of rain predicted tonight and coastal flood watch which means you could have trouble tomorrow. Is your boat tied or just sitting on the lift?

We left GP last night and the water was right up to the docks... and this was after all the rain...so unless the lifts are really low you should be okay...

Also, did anyone notice the water this weekend in the rapp? It was really a dark brown and had a funky smell too it... took family out boarding and tubing Saturday and they all commented about it...not sure if the bloom was up in it or not but had not seen the water like that this year...

saltfly,
I'm on WMP Creek and use the below link to gauge my sweat factor. My boat is on a lift and needs 12" of H20 above the bunks to float. Based on lift height (varies based on the number of beers consumed while washing the boat) + 12" I figure that high tide is going to have to exceed 4.5+ MLW to even make my boat light. Ernesto (2006) peaked at 5' at WMP and my boat stayed on the lift (was also tied port/stbd to piles). Hope this helps...don't think we're even close. R/Downdeep

I'm on the Potomac at Lewisette. It is now 7:29 P.M. on Wed. and high tide has just passed. Was 1 ft. above normal.

At Bush Creek the tide is running about 1.5 ft above normal. Should be no problem.

Hey Coan,

Can you give me an update at high tide Thursday? My boats are on a lift just upstream from you right on the Potomac. Any idea of when NOAA is going to fix the weather station at Lewisetta? Thanks.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I'm on Little oyster creek and have it cranked up to the top of the lift. I have it tied for good measure too. The water will need to be about 3 feet above the TOP of my dock to float the boat, so this sounds like a minor deal this week. Looking forward to getting down there after some fall striped ones.

How about now. Time on Deck is 0630 9/11/09. Boat is in Cabin Point. Anybody close and feel like taking their coffee outside to take a peek. Thanks.

I was down that way yesterday 9-10-09 afternoon high tide Urabana around 4pm tide was to top of the dock but not over Id say 2.5 feet above normal high tide. Same at Center Cross (just down river from Garretts Marina).

Have a good one

I don't understand the concern? I am not poking anyone, but tides run a foot or so above normal not infrequently when the wind and moon phases line up.

My dock and lift are pretty low and two years ago I had to get my boat out of the woods. I think it has to do with being over 40 and starting to sweat the little stuff. Thanks.

Gotcha, and I don't want to bust your chops either but I since I don't live there full time I have to rely on some eye witness accounts. If you combine high tides and waves created by persistent high E/NE wind which are created by a low pressure system off the tidewater coast and a high pressure of the Canadian maritimes you get a Junior Ernesto. Take a look below and see what ol' Ernie did to my place. That's my Sea Pro T-top :mad:and what's left of the backyard. A few more feet or erosion and the septic would have been gone and good luck replacing that 50 feet from the River/Bay. I/we get a little edgy when the weather conditions get a certain way. Fortunately this was no Ernesto, not even close.

Thanks for keeping me posted everyone.

DownDeep, thanks for the storm surge website. Yesterday's high at Lockies was about average for a N'oreaster. Not over my finger pier. Probably 2-3 feet below Ernesto. This morning was lower than yesterday so the current event is over.

jwas1,
No problem, I like most on this tread live on the NN in our dreams Monday-Friday, in heaven Saturday-Sunday and all sweat more than normal when the wind really starts to blow. Here's on more NOAA link that's a bit more complex but "forecasts" surge for the next 48 hours. The black line is the one to watch. Any of the Grey's Point guys down there now? My neighbor said something about some boats damaged by a storm there last night....

Just heard this from neighbor down at GP...

"30 mph winds with high tide and the wind blowing right into the marina, water over the docks blew his boat under another one". Something must have not been tied up properly for that to happen.
