Servicing my 88Hp Johnson via installation of water pump kit. Got the unit down and the pump housing off , but cannot budge the impeller . Any hints for how to get the old impeller off the driveshaft.?

I'm not familiar with that engine but I am guessing a bearing puller would do the trick if you have room to get it on.

This is assuming that you have exhausted all other means of prying and persuasion,,
inside the rubber impeller is a brass housing
When they stick that bad I cut them off with a sawsall with a metal cutting blade, cut down parellell to the driveshaft, just cut the brass part of the impeller, not the driveshaft or the lower unit housing, takes me about 1 minute to remove them this way

2 big screwdrivers. One on wither side of the impeller and pop it up.

Split the brass center core of the impeller with a cold chisel if other means of persuasion fail. I'd be careful with a Sawzall or similar tools, since it's hard to manage collateral damage.

You can cut it with a cut off wheel in a dremel tool too. It's light duty but real controlable

Cutting the impeller off with a hack saw , carefully, parallel to the drive shaft was the trick !!!
