Woke up to birds working breakers on the river this morning. I got out on the river for a little while and caught some small Rock and snapper Blues. They are always fun on lite to medium tackle. I saw some huge baitballs move through a couple of times. Tried LTJing them but the pesky snapper blues kept pulling the tails off of my jigs. Had one of the best up close views while standing on my casting deck of rock and blues ambushing bait from below! It was very cool and only about 2 feet away from the boat in good visability. Had luck with a couple lures today, Panther Martin spinners, Krocodiles and Rappalla deep divers. Here are a few pictures. Beautiful day to be out on the river!

Nicely done -- good photos too.
No fishing for me this weekend. I am in Salt Lake City for a few days. Utah relaxed its alcohol sales rules a year or so ago. Beer is everywhere - I was able to buy 2 cases of beer at a convenience story at 8:30 am. I can't imagine that happening 5 years ago.
I hope to get back out on the river and/or bay next weekend.

Thanks John!! Two cases of beer that early sounds like a good day in the making!!
It turned out to be a great weekend (once I got past the flu from Thurs/ Friday). I went to the Terp Game on Saturday and saw them win in overtime (although it should have never been that close!) Went fishing this morning and caught a few fish and finished the day by clearing my crab pots and chowing on these beauties. Not a bad way to spend a birthday weekend in the land of pleasant living!!

JP,
Wild Goose Oatmeal Stout is one of my favorite beers and it is made in Maryland which makes it even better!

Oh yeah, Mark, Dring Local! The Wild Goose guys have been friends for a long time. My personal fav is wintertime Snow Goose. Are you aware that WG has a partnership with Colorado's Flying Dog Brewery to brew their beers in Frederick too?

JP,
I have never tried the Snow Goose. I will have to give it a shot this winter! I have never tried any of the Colorado's Flying Dog Brewery beers either. I am sure if it is made by the same guys that it must be good!
Hey Steve,
I thought about jumping in the rowboat but I didn't want to have to pull out the 3.5HP and mount it for the short time I was going to be out. The breakers I was on were constantly on the move so my arms would have gotten tired pretty quick rowing! I was also glad I had sonar - it helped see some huge schools which definitely helped me catch more fish. I haven't seen bait balls like that since early spring. I was kind of supprised at how big they were with good sized fish mixed in this early! Hopefully a good sign for a productive fall! Have you been out at all?

I personally think the snow goose is my all time favorite beer. I just bought the last six pack of Snow Goose from the Rite Aid in Annapolis about a month ago. Oh I know there's a shelf life but it is soo good. What I wanna hear is where you get the oatmeal stout in tweleve packs I can only find it in the variety pack.

Mark,
I have been out a few times. Mostly looking around the mouth of the Severn. I played with small blues in little round bay last week for a while. Yes, there is a tremendous amount of bait in the Severn. I only hope that it brings the good size fish in for a few weeks. Should be a decent fall bite............Hope all is well with you.........
