Sometime in the future I would like to buy a small boat that would be suitable for fishing the bay on fairly calm days and would be ideal for the rivers and inlets and occasionally freshwater.
Here's the criteria/features I have in mind so far:
16'-17' V-hull
Preferably Fiberglass
Either center console or side console with windshield.
40 - 75 hp outboard
Would like a four-stroke but will probably look for something used first and it may have a two stroke.
Would like something with storage for rods, tackle, anchor and lifejackets.

I've been thinking about a Privateer but would love to hear some other suggestions.

It might be hard to do but I'm trying to keep my purchase in the $5k range also.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Buy a used small older Whaler, perhaps one that has been repowered with a newer environmentally friendly outboard. It will keep its value. If you decide to trade up or something laer you'll get your money back.

I spent eight months looking for the boat you described except I had an eight grand self imposed limit. Most sellers in that range are trying to sell junk. Don't be in a hurry, and shop constantly. Search on line for used boat sales you'll find many, many sites. In that time, I found three good deals and pulled the trigger on a '95 Grady 17'er for less than my limit. I guess what I'm trying to say is that in your case, patience and perseverance will definitely be necessary.
Good Luck!!!
