if they are bitin' they will hit a gulp alive swimming mullet, second choice gulp 4" new penny shrimp, 3/8 oz lead head bumpin across the bottom

That's pretty solid advice...Don't know many fish that won't eat a gulp mullet. I've been fishing the Roanoke & Croatan Sounds the last couple weeks and the puppy drum have been very cooperative (19"-25"). As the water starts to cool the specks will start to school up in the deeper holes and sloughs.

Sounds good - Thanks! Hook mullet thru the head and the shrimp thru the tail?

You will understand once you see the baits.

I have seen them. Used them both and always wondered if I had em rigged right. Any particular size/color on the mullet?

I like the 4" pearl white mullet. Rig the mullet and the shrimp the same way, use a jig head, on the sound side I like a 3/8 oz red one. Put it in the head and out through the belly.

Anyone have any info for Pamlico Sound from Hatteras Inlet to behind Buxton, Buxton Channel area? I've been fishing this area for 5 years now and most of my success has come from a few Crab Traps. The crabs are great. I get a few specs, snapper blues and spanish in the inlet but I'm looking to fish more of the Buxton Channel area. Any help would be appreciated. Are there any flounder in the sound? Keeper size? I've caught small ones in the traps?????

Where are you staying? I will be in Avon all next week. Am looking to do a little bit of every type of fishing available down there.
