I was hoping to find some quick topwater action at Sandy Point near Solomons yesterday evening since the tide would still be ebbing at sunset. I launched at 5pm (max ebb) and fished until 7:45pm. Surface water temperature 72*, and salinity was 13. The wind was blowing pretty hard from the ENE, and some of the waves were 1ft+ with lots of 2 footers thrown in. There were lots of silversides or anchovies everywhere in big schools that sometimes spanned the entire water column. I picked up a small spot and small flounder on a bottom rig on FishBites, caught a small bluefish on a Rattletrap, and lost a decent fish on my trolling spoon. No topwater hits at all or any other hits on the Rattletrap. Working the Chugbug in the waves wasn't easy, and it fouled a lot, which ruined the presentation. However, I never saw any fish harassing the bait. I've noticed that seems to occur pretty often in the Patuxent compared to other places I fish. Oh well, the action should be heating up soon.

Hey,
At least you were fishing. I saw schools of baitfish at PLO on the last Saturday but no predators.
I am hitting St. Jerome's Creek tomorrow for stripers and a keeper puppy. This is the only kayak-fishable place I know with the wind @15+ knots.
