Big Snook & Big Red

Greetings to all my buds from sunny and warm SW Fl, Charlotte Harbor. I dont get much time to post pics and do reports these days, just wanted to say hey. Thought Id share a couple of pics of a 36 inch snook and 30 plus incher red, that a friend of mine caught while fishing in Charlotte Harbor over a couple of days. The first 2 shots are of the big snook hitting a Puglisi fly which he inhaled as Bob had hooked a ladyfish, then the big snook ate the lady and the fly. It's tough getting the big bruisers on fly, usually they're a little weary. The fish was caught in 3 ft water, on the west wall. As an example, I lost a 40 incher plus in the mangroves earlier in the year, the fish bent the hook, could have used a tarpon hook. The second shot is a 30 plus inch 10 pound red Bob caught in the evening as storms approached. We were targeting tarpon on the east wall of the Harbor, which have been thick also feeding on ladyfish. Big reds are real tough to come by on fly on the flats in the Harbor, very spooky from tournaments and boats. If you come to the Harbor and plan on fly casting to reds, it's best to wade to tailing fish. Bob's big red took a long casted Mirrorlure which is very popular here. You can cast a considerable distance and get big reds to take lures. In the Harbor, reds eat baitfish possibly more then anywhere, hence almost weekly redfish tournaments. BTW tarpon fishing has been over the top in the Harbor this year. One fly angler I know has caught and brought 8 to the boat, which he caught on a white Puglisi, which looks like the white bait.

Aw lucky! trying to head down to Naples at the end of the year. Hope its not to slow. Going to try and go with a guy named Roan Zumfelde.
Cant wait, probly pulling the same things out at that time of the year. Should be a blast and congrats.

Nice to hear everything is working out for you since you moved down south. We should be in the Sarasota area for several weeks in the later part of January visiting in laws. If time permits I’ll try to give you a call for a day of guided fishing.

Good Luck golfin down to the south. I hit Chockoloskee several times a year, generally in the winter when the bugs dont bite, the Lopez rocks in January. BTW I love to golf.:thumbup:

Hey Wayne nice to hear from ya. Hope the Toyota is still running, moved up to the biggy in 08 and get better mileage. Shoot me an email when you get down and will definitely find some room for ya.
