Hello

I'm giving duck hunting a try this year. I have a nice neoprene chest waders for trout fishing. Just need to find a pair of boots for the mud to use with them. Maybe a new pair of waders just for water fowl hunting is what is needed. Need to buy a new camo coat. What type of coat should I buy that could also be used for deer hunting, and what else do I need to wear to keep me warm out in the wet marsh / field? Any thoughts about the boots or waders? Don't want to spend a fortune the first year to give it a try.

Thanks

Waders - uninsulated, boot foot, gore-tex/breathable. Flannel lined jeans underneath for cold weather. I use the same waders for duck hunting in January and trout fishing in June. Don't even fool w/ my stocking foot waders any more.

Jacket - wader length (short) gore-tex/breathable. Either lightly insulated for layering underneath or the type with a zip out insulated lining.

I've found this combo to be most comfortable and flexible for duck hunting in all conditions from relatively warm and wet early in the season to snowy and cold late. I've found Cabela's offers consistent quality and value in waterfowling gear.

thanks for your insight. I was leaning towards that type of wader. I'll have to take a drive up to cabelas to try on the clothes

Go with neoprene with big boots so you dont get stuck in the mud. My feet get cold so I like 1000 grams of insulation.
