I am planning to purchase a boat in the near future (my first). I am considering something in the 22'-26' range. Probably used mainly for the bay and inshore fishing, but something that could be used offshore on occasion.

I have been enjoying the water for over 40yrs and have done my share of fishing including numerous billfish tournaments, king mackeral tournaments, etc, but always on someone elses boat.

I would appreciate it if you folks could reccomend some good books, or any other reference material on boating and other material that would benifit a new boater. I plan to attend a safe boating course, and would like to learn all I can through any other courses that may be offered.

I respect the knowledge of the posters on this forum, and would sincerely appreciate your guidance.

Thanks for all replies,

Walt D

Extremely good advice. Also, check out this site prior to buying a boat. There is a wealth of information you could probably use;

I have Chapman's, but the book I find myself reading more often is Reed's Nautical Companion. Next time you're in the store, thumb through a copy and see what you think.
