This report has a couple of aspects to it, so bear with me.

1. If the golden rule of fishing is to never leave fish for fish then the same should apply to crabbing. Last week I crabbed the Patapsco on Friday 9/18 with good success last week Friday but in the back of my mind, I was thinking the Gunpowder would still hold bigger crabs.

SATURDAY 9/26 I headed back to the railroad bridge where I had done well earlier in the year and friends had done well last week 9/19.

WRONG!!!!!! 3 hours with wind, pulled the gear with 2' waves and white caps forming in a 13' Whaler, not good.

Ended up with 15 mixed crabs some jumbos some not, none really packed full.

2. In light of earlier threads about how long the October crasb will last, those that crabbed further down the Gunpowder did well. Talked to one guy who came in at the same time as I did that had just about a full bushel. They appear to be moving downriver

3. Got to help out an unfortunate boater at the ramp. Some poor guy dumped his 17' Sea Pro CC on the concrete ramp at Mariner Point. Along with about 8-10 people, we were able to lift the bow of the boat up until he could drift the truck and trailer under it and then crank it back up. One 1/2 way on we finished up by pushing it while he cranked.

Bottom looked pretty good, some scrapes and minor chips but nothing major.

My back is paying for it big time right now. Pulled some major muscles in the middle, but worth it to help somebody out.

Good luck trying to figure out the crab! At least you got a meal. My cousin has a 13' whaler and it is not a fun ride and hard on the back in 2' seas but lifting 17' boats will help:D I hope your back heals quicker than the bottom of the boat. Good job helping out. Hope it never happens to me............Gary

No good deed goes unpunished. But you earned your good samaritan badge for sure. There will be better crabbing days ahead!

Chris, You will be rewarded I am sure. I prescribe that today you relax and perform any strenuous activity. Get in the recliner and watch the Ravens. Drink something with hops in it to ease the pain in your back. Chicken wings and meatballs should be eatin in liberal amounts. Chips and dip are fine also. ;-)

This may not help your back out but It might help your ego. I crabbed the pax saturday (windy) with 23 traps 3 different spots for approx' 4-1/2 hours and came back with 18 crabs. Threw back a ton of females. Only five of the 18 were heavy and I crabbed from a 12' fiberglass v hull so I feel your pain with the waves. There will be better days. Lol...Mark

Thanks guys. It always feels good to help somebody out in a predicament that bad.

Mazz222

yeah I do feel better considering that

Dave

Gumbo, margaritas, hot chicken dip took the edge off Sunday but still feeling it.

Gary

The 13' for it's size isn't too bad IMHO, you just have to remember what it is 13'.

BM

Might get one more weekend in this year and that's it.
