Right below you in the next river . Little river on the Point at Nixonton NC
Hope you enjoy me telling you this but you've moved into heaven if you enjoy all types of fishing. The fall stripers have already started schooling around the 32 bridge in Edenton and the mouth of my river , and catches of 50 or more a day so far. There small compaired to what we enjoy offshore in VA and out of OI but its well worth the day in fun to go out there and have a blast. Little different than the ocean but the guys hang together in the sound and when the stripers go down, we fan out and as soon as that hit the top again, everyone heads that way. Looks like the starting of a car race when you drop the flag. Fresh water fishing is the best. Transplant myself from Lake Waccamaw NC with the fast bass boat which soon was replaced by what was needed up here, and we use to come up here brim fishing in the spring. You can load a 48 qt cooler in three days when its there time on the bed. Some puppy drum, flounder now and then and the best white perch fishing there is. Buddy of mine makes me look like a rookie with the hours he spends on the water but 200+ a day is not uncommon for him and his side kick. I enjoy fishing but 14 hours a day is to much for me on the pan fish.
Bass are everywhere. Most of my firends that come over when I"m home enjoy cookouts on the dock and the ones that have kids bring their own rods and catfish usuallly bite all the time. Use to shock in the black and cape fear but they get a little touchie up there if you have the things in the boat. LOL
Soft shell crabs right off the dock.
I travel most of the time with work. In PA now but enjoy here and The hull truth on the fishing forums and there is a wealth of information from these guys that will help you out. Finished up the new toy this summer and campers ready for striper season so well have to get together and see when your headed over there and might tag along behind you. GF and I enjoy the two day thing when we go.
Most of the party crowd hangs out in front the coast guard bace. the cookout not so wild crowed has started showing up on our side. Adv depth is about 10 to 14 . Slow down then you turn the curve to the draw bridge and get completely out the no wake before you hammer. That guy loves his job on the vhf.. he works for the USCG. He'll let you know. that too. LOL Only gas on the water is at Lambs, usually 10cent higher than street prices, so turn ya hat around backwards you not a newbie any more and Welcome to the neighborhood.

Welcome to the nieghborhood MM,I'm up close to the Shell station off of Country Club
All good and true info from Liveaboard 74.
Watch your depth inside the markers till you are familiar with the area,no sandbars to speak of just shallows up in close. I think it's shallow at Texaco but not for to far out.
add a few specks to the mix and sometimes shrimp, and theres always crabs.:fishing2:

You'll love this area, great place to live.
I'm at the north end of Texaco/EC beach, I've got 3' off the end of my pier. There is a shoal out about 150' yards that runs south toward the ramp and widens the farther south it goes. (It goes to less than a 1' in some areas on the shoal) The best way to get out of the ramp is to head toward the CG base, the water will drop off to 5' and continue to fall to 12-14' out in the channel. You'll catch pretty much anything up here that you'll catch in the sound, lot's of juvenile fish though. Welcome to the area. J

Hey, my name is scott and I am new to elizabeth city also. I am looking forward to striper season tomorrow. I am 22 and have a 14 foot john boat with 25 hp tohatsu. I moved to EC this summer to go to pharmacy school through the ECSU/UNC pharmd program.
Any tips on striper fishing the Pasquotank, North RIver, and Little River?
I plan to do some trolling... is it best to troll the big water parts of these rivers vs. upriver?
Also, i enjoy white perch fishing. Is the fishing better upriver or in bigger parts of the rivers?. I have only fished for them upriver of the drawbridge(Pasq River) and North River (crooked creek landing and upriver). Also, there are some big white perch in north river! seem smaller in the PQ river...
Any help on trolling baits or anything would be great. good luck this season.

can any of you tell me if the area floods easily? my insurance co. is telling me this is a flood zone.. thanks. Wildest thing you have ever heard . Before Floyd hit it was. After Floyd hit everyone clamed. and got money. Govn. did not want to play any more so all of us got a letter stating that we were not in the flood zone any longer. I"m right on the water so I kept mine but the rates dropped down to almost nothing after that. I"m with Ellen at Southern Insurance. in EC. Tell her Luke sent you. Heck of a rate on car insurencs to.
Now I got a letter a few weeks ago,, we are back in the flood zone. This my friend is your tax dollars and minds at work. You diffently need it if your on the water around here. I had whitecaps in the front yard, and it was not a pritty sight after the storm. Bite the bullet. support your govn, No matter what the cost. LOL
Other post.
On the trolling with that small a boat on the other question, Little River. From HallsCreek landing to the mouth of the sound and Herford . that buddy is all the fishing you will even need. Herford behind the police station back to the left from the landing is the best crappie, brim hole around here and just to the left of the swing bridge once your headed toward big water.
For striper with that boat, from where you come out of Halls creek into the big water to half way to the mouth where it dumps into the sound,, You will catch all the stripers you want. Look for the holes on the bottom and mark them. There boys taught me a totally different way to fish. You have to have a gps to mark them when you go over them but these boys taught me this and they CATCH FISH. White perch in little river also. Use 1/4 oz beetle spins and bate the rear with a little piece of shrimp. Best bate going. Hertford and The little river will be all you need. Perfect landing for a boat that size and halls creek and Herford I can unload my big one there. Friend unloads his 25 down here by me so easy picking for you.
See ya both on the water........:)

What class flood zone did they say your in? I'm in an AE and have not had a problem, but if we get a strong 3 or a 4 or 5 storm, we will have water issues.

Evening JL. O ya,, don't even mentioned a direct hit with a three... :( I'm ground zero on the water. House is 42 inches above ground and I felt the dinning room trying to float during floyd. Lost all the insulation under the house and its a 1000 foot drive from the road down to the where it opens up and I had 32 trees over the drive.
We had a spinoff toronado cut a path as pritty as you want to see crossed the drive and went between my house and the neighbors, but we are about 100 yards apart. Took the fire dept 3 hours with 6 men to cut us out with that D-9 cat dozer they had.
On my shop, its the same height and it was one inch from going in the door. It did move the shop about a inch or two on the pillings and they lean now.
I'm in PA and wireless is slow but will try and see if I can post some pictures.
Memory Maker,, so you'll konw, what happens in the sound is we do not have tides but we do have very stong currents that are wind driven. When storms like floyd hit, it pushes the water up in the rivers and of course with them getting smaller the closer you get to I-17 there is no where for the water to go but up. Yard will slowley start filling up . We can watch it comming in over by the point. Its taken my 10 years to build this place. 126 loads of dirt in the yard @ 22ton each load. I had 58 pines in the yard also. They are History.. :)
I've put in central air and heat and any time the water comes up under the house more than 8 inches I have to replace all the lower duck work. Another one like floyd and eveyrthing would have to be replace. Heavy insured. LOL Have pictures of 24 foot sail boats on top of docks in Edenton, and it was a eye opener to me and my first experence at something like this. Girlfriend lives in Pinetops, and if I'm not home we have the hurricane plan all laid out and we have to move everything from Sunset Point up to the road before the storm hits.
Built the dock last year and I used a lazar and built it high enough where a cat 2 would not reach it and @ 150 foot its cement all the way to the end. Instead of the boat house I mounted two polls on both sides of the dock to use as slips and use gidewires crossed from each to the gazebo. I take those nasty storms very serious. Glad this hurricane season is about over. LOL

Looks like some of my driving right there. Parked as stight and pritty as you could ask for. Right on top the dock.
Yes its floods in this area. Not often but not being insured could change your life. Cat 3 direct hit on Elizabeth City we will be getting a new house. Evening gentlemen. :)

MM, these links should help understand things a little bit. I sounds like you could be in a A2.

Liveaboard,
Those are bad memories, don't want to see that again for awhile. Alot of folks lost their whole piers when the water receded. They looked like dominoes falling.
