Mercruiser problem - got a Gen II outdrive, need a Gen I, any solution?

Here is my problem - I have a 1996 Mercruiser 4.3L-XL and am replacing the outdrive. My new Mercruiser outdrive arrived and its a Gen II - I have a Gen I transom mount, etc. the outdrive is original from 1983.

I got a steal on the outdrive, but shipping back and forth to correct the mistake, get a gen I, etc. is going to cost another $400 or so.

Any other options?

Does'nt sound like a steal to me. Remeber if it sounds like a great deal it's problably not.

It was my error - the outdrive was exactly as promised - I would still call a new mercruiser for the price of a knockoff a deal - whether or not it fit my boat...

But problem solved - they are swithing it out for the right one.
