Right now out at Hacketts. Birds everywhere - fish churning the water and tearing up everything thrown their way. If you know someone who doesn't like to fish but enjoys catching, now is the time to get out there. Perfect time to take a youngster fishing

Did you spy this from land or did you do some catching??

Went out this morning and got a bunch of blues for the smoker... figured it might be the last hurrah for our toothy (and tasty) friends. A LOT of fun... the entire area around Hacketts is covered right now.

Smoked bluefish dip might be one of the best things on earth....

I saw the birds from a mile away - huge flock working the fish.

Went back this evening... brought the wife to give her a chance to experience fall fishing at its finest. She caught a ton of blues casting surface plugs, including her largest blue ever, while I dropped a bucktail to the bottom and brought up big rock after big rock, including this 30"er.
One downside to the evening was when Diana got a little excited and dropped my custom made Steve F rod w/ stradic 2500 to the bottom of the bay... ouch! But, there were still fish to catch so we shook it off, re-rigged, and kept at it.
These fish seemed to be heading into the mouth of the river... let the fun begin!

Great report Larry. Tough luck on the rod and reel.
I just got home from an excellent catching afternoon near the mouth of the Choptank. I will post a report tomorrow. I caught about 25 blues to 20" on med-light rods and topwater plugs and jigs with twister tails. The fishing was fast and furious for several hours.

Clancy: No... we were out on the ledge near red #2 (which was in bounds for one of our Rumbles on the River - but not anymore :))). Wait'll these babies come into the mouth of the river, though... then it'll be game over!
Skip: I shouldla' hit the man overboard button on the gps but wasn't thinking fast enough... almost thought about diving in after it, but thought better of that idea. It's all just stuff.

Well now that's a REAL bummer....:D
I said my prayers, I gouged my Big E voodoo doll, I have done all a man can do, so hopefully you are right and that slug of fish will move in.....
That being said, my best day LTJ'ing ever came one June afternoon in 2006 out on the TPL ledge when I had countless fish that went over 30"....I was never able to find them again....
Hopefully this is not the case, but if it is, at least in my book, what a night to remember!!

And in lieu of sending flowers for the lost rig, please send checks to "The Steve F Rod Fund". Thanks! :bigangel:

Mark, you could have caught all the rock and blues you wanted right from your yard the other day. Granted, it was a bunch of dinks. But they were breaking all around your boat. SONEIL and I had some fun, and then moved on.

Well I just got off the phone with Larry and his new rod has just been order. I hope to have Larry back in action in about a week and a half. Man that is a bummer but I'm going to put a lot of Mojo in this rod so you guys better watch out for him. I'll take care of ya Larry and will be giving you a call reel soon.
By the way, make all checks out to Backyard Custom Rods.....:D
