I just purchased a new place in the Tappahannock area. It has a metal cable "closeline" for tying off my boat. I have a 18 1/2' SeaSwirl and was wondering how secure this system is in a storm. Any ideas?
Thanks, Steve

I wouldn't use a metal cable for securing the boat b/c it has no stretch. It would put a lot of shock stress on your cleat or wherever you're tying off to. Dock lines have a bit of stretch to them. I have those dockline shock absorbers on my 22'er which add more stretch/shock absorption when the boat is being pushed one way or the other in the slip.

You'd use a cable on a davit to haul your boat up.

Steve we used this method in our marina for many years. We had pilings on either side of the slip so the cable was approx.7-9 feet off the water. Then we attached a pully to the cable where we wanted the bows. Then ran a line thru the pulley with a snap on one end to clip on the boweye and a weight on the other for tension then lines on the bulkhead or pier to run to stern cleats. It's a very good system, and worked well for our customers for many years.
