Plenty of nice spot all over the Rapp today. Did not seem to matter where you tried. Water was nice and clear and 70 degrees. I caught some nice #1 size fish at both the Red Barns and the Pickle Factory plus a few nice croaker that were still hanging around. All fish caught on blood worms. I was taking the small bait size spot and throwing them in the live well for use at the bridge later.

After getting enough nice spot for dinner I went to the bridge and joined a rather large group of boats fishing the bridge pilings. I got tight on the down river side of the paint barge which had sealed off a pair of pilings. It offered some shelter from the boat wakes and breeze that was kicking up around 11:00AM this morning. Rigged up the Shimano Bait Runner and threw out a live spot. Missed one fish right away by jerking the circle hook instead of a nice steady pull when the fish was taking line . After losing that fish I then made a bigger mistake. I love my 22 foot Grady White Tournament dual console as it is a really good all around set up but it can present problems with the bimini top up when fishing alone. I had fished for a while but then got lazy and moved to the bow of the boat to sit on my fat can on the bow cushions. The bimini top was up. I then hung a real nice striper and got him to the starboard bow. Due to the obstructions of my bimini top and dual windshield I could not easily work him back towards the cockpit where my net was at. While trying to land him off the bow without a net I basically screwed around and lost him on a head shake at the side of the boat. Oh well, learned a lesson there. I then ran home to clean the spot and catch another frustrating Skins game. I know they won....still frustrating. Beautiful day on the water. Sure am glad rockfish season is here again. I think its going to be a good one.

Thanks for the report Slate... I'm heading out tomorow. Will probably do the same thing as you. Jig the bridge. Anyone have any luck trolling?

Slate dog we killed the spot this weekend too. Charter Saturday had 10 or 15 3/4 of a pound or better with around 200 nice ones including croaker, trout, blues, blow toads and some giant white perch. Im almost tempted to flounder fish as we had 3 throwbacks (not even drifting just anchored up) and also had some sea bass we had to let go. Sunday we went back out looking for a paper fish and spot for the bait pen. kept 35 over 10" but no papers and added another 60 or so bait spot to the pen. Was back in by 11:30 so Josh could make his soccer game but would have been up there live lining with you if we would have had all day to fish. Some guys at the marina trolled Sunday but with all the spot and blues still around it makes it hard to catch Rocks that way right now and none caught trolling. Ive got charters Fri and Sat next week to finish out my bottom fishing season but Im going to put the Carolina Skiff in at the marina to catch some aftermoon Rock action. Friends of mine fished Piankitank Sat light tackle and caught a few specks but lot of rock might have to cast a few up around our way if the bridge armada is too large.

Have a good one

Good going Bobby. You are proving what you said in a previous post....that the best time of the year for bottom fishing is right now. Lot of different quality fish to be caught. I stopped at a few spots on the way to the bridge Sunday for some light tackle casting but did not have any luck. My son's friend Tim did catch a nice keeper red on Saturday in a foot and a half of water under a pier on the main stem of the river. I will probably get back out this weekend hopefully. Good luck to all.

It's been a while since I was on TF. So long in fact that I had to open a new account.

I am glad to see others had as good a weekend on the Rap. as we did and that there is now alot of activity on TF about the river.

We fished the north end of the WSB Sat. and Sunday. We hit blues, rocks, black wilies, greys, blow toads, oyster toads and spot.

Live lining spot deep gave me a pleasant suprise and a great stuffed flat fish dinner Sunday night.

Glad to be back.
