Bluey-Oregon Inlet has been afire with pups and bigger. The good surf fishing starts to the north in the fall, and works its way south as time passes.Pups all in the grass up around OI on sound side, with nice flounder on marsh edges. You're so close, and yet so far. Also, there's a scrum of trout casters by the piers in NH area every morning, catching some nice fish, and hooking up on big drum on little lures every now and then.I think the water off Frisco is about 79 degrees---it's cooler to the north, low 70's or so.Still,I've heard of some nice fish(flou-trout) in the sound behind Frisco.

I was in Hatteras last weekend and the inshore charters were catching the pups and some trout you might try getting out there on a boat to fish some of the deep cuts in the sound.
Good Luck
Also the bait of choice was finger mullet have bunch with you the pin fish were thick.

The guides out of Hatteras have been catching the puppy drum very well lately. They must be there. According to Red Drum tackle in Buxton, there are plenty of fish being caught from the beach as well.

I'd try taking the yak just north of Buxton. Just as you make the turn to the north there is a sand pull off/ launching area you could put in. Paddle around in there around those islands and out farther into the sound.

Of course, you probably want to wait for the west wind to die down some.

Good Luck,
Mike

I just got home (Richmond, VA) from the OBX this afternoon. Stayed in Rodanthe. I surf fished most days and my total count was 1 blue fish and 1 mullet. I saw a few small croakers and pompano taken but they were few & far between. Wished I'd tried the sound-side.

Regardless, it was a great time with great scenery so not catching didn't bother me too much.

Thanks all ,
I went the the Place just outside of Buxton with my yak.. Thanks So Much MGARDENER1 you had it pegged . I had just installed an Eagle 300 fishfinder thank goodness.. Was able to find several steep dropoffs and caught a ton of flounder. Most were throw backs but did manage a bunch of keepers ... All on White 1/4 jig heads and White gulp Shrimp in 3 inch.. WHat a blast .. Thanks to Red drum Tackle and Frisco Rod and reel.. These Guys we all very helpful ..
and did not let me waste my time. Thanks to several Locals who showed me the popping cork method.. I was able to catch some trout one at 20 inches.. The Surf was not to good.I did catch some whiting and pompano
but not much.. The sound was the Deal..
2 times in 2 years Tidalfish folks have come thru .. Its why I support and will continue to support TF'rs

Glad I could help. I've only fished that area once, but don't have a yak to get in there and look around. We fished it from our old jon boat and caught a nice speck and a puppy drum. Guys fish from the sound side beach there often. It's a nice sheltered area.

Good luck with the wedding!

Mike
