Can anyone give me feed back on remote search lights? I'm looking at the (ACR RCL-75 DUAL LAMP SPOTLIGHT) and have no idea of the good, bad. Who's happy with what they have? I have a need to avoid grab pots. Thanks

Capt John, So far I have found on another board that acr-75 is not worth a penny. Rough seas make it dance with the plactic gears they use in them. Still looking, but I'll post here for you when I find anything out.

I have a Golight Model 5167, wired remote control. 400,000 Candle Power, 5.5 amps. Don't like the wireless remotes, they need batteries, or I would drop the remote over the side for sure. Base attaches to bow rail, or can be suction cup mounted. Light can be removed from base for storage. Will rotate 360, and up and down 120 degrees. Can be used as handheld also. Comes with amber filter. 5 years, no problems. And no, I don't shine it on other boats, and also turn it off when other boats are approaching or are near. About 120 bucks @ Boaters World. Hope this helps, T.

Thank you for the prompt replies. I have experienced situations where someone blinded the fleet with a powerful spot light leaving the harbor down in Morehead City in the dark early am hours. I would like one to see the lobster pot high flyers at night in the canyons we fish along the 100 fathom line in the summer.

It is illegal to run using spot light. You can turn it on to spot nav aids ect. but then you must turn off.

If you enjoy "gadgets" those remote control lights are nice. But for ruggedness, economy and max candlepower, especially for only occasional use, can't beat a high quality handheld.

After months of searching for the right spot light, considering price, ease of use, rugedness etc. I decided to go with a "roof mount " U-250H by Unity mfg. the same light that goes on emergency vehicles. Mounted near the center of my T-top it has no glare on the boat-(important), and no remote to wire-up or break.
Check out the website for picture and details.
Shoot a bmail to Darren. He recently put a remote light on his 25 Carolina Classic it seems to work well.

I installed this model light on a friend's 24 foot Albemarle about 5 years ago and it is still working very well. It will work IF you have a hard top.
