A funny thing happened when I went to pick up my new rod from Steve F yesterday morning: he wouldn't take any money for it. Now, I've known Steve quite a while, and I've been a good customer of his custom made rods ever since Capt. Skip turned me on to them at the CBBT, but "free" wasn't exactly the discount I was expecting.

Turns out, he says, that someone from the SRRKC contacted him and said the club would like to take care of this. I was floored. That was the most unexpected and humbling gesture I've experienced in a long, long time.

I can't tell you how grateful I am, not simply for this wonderful gift, but for the guys who chose to give it. I've been a part of this club for many years, and it has never ceased to amaze me just how great this group of people happens to be. Fisherman, no less - go figure :D

From the bottom of my heart: Thank You! I appreciate this gift more than you'll ever know.

Now, who wants to go with me to break it in?!?!

Thanks Guys!!!

If that rod doesn't catch the biggest fish next weekend, then I wouldn't use it again:))
Nice offering............:clapping2:

I'm glad you got a replacement rod. It sure looks nice. Your contributions to the club for many years did not go un-noticed.

Least we all could do for you - Hoy Hoy .

It took Steve F a few days extra to fill the blank with floation foam and install a tiny EPIRB in the handle :D.

Did anyone else notice that Larry looks a bit possessed in the third photo?

Larry, I know when I got the call from that “Someone” I even told him that I was going to help you out with this rod. You have been a very good customer of mine and I really appreciate all the good things you have told other guys about me. I just hope that you or your wife can keep a good hold on it and by the way it took me a little time but I figured out how to put the EPIRB in the handle, but its there. :D Enjoy your new rod Larry and I sure hope that it will put a winner in the boat for you this year.

I expected Steve to add a tether to the handle to slip around your wrist.
