Now I became a descent Large Mouth Bass angler, I hope.

Bob and I went to Bob’s parent vacation home at Lake Anna. We were greeted by 3 anglers, Bob Sr., Bill and Donny, who had been fishing this Memorial weekend.

They are excellent Large Mouth Bass anglers. I fished with them before. They knew I am not a fresh water fisherman. With them in the past, I caught a few bass by trolling crank baits. I never caught large mouth bass by casting lures.

But I told them this time was different. I have been practicing catching fish by casting soft lures in Chesapeake Bay and Long Island. I told them I am only using my soft lures by which I caught stripers, Bluefish, Puppy Drums, Speckled Sea Trout, and Flounder. Though I did not bring any Gulp Alive.

I did not know how to locate the fish. But today I learned. While Donny navigated the Bass Boat, Donny explained how to locate the fishing spots for Large Mouth Bass and Crappie in detail. As he explained about the fishing spot, we were catching large mouth bass and crappies. I caught 5 large mouth bass on soft lures for Chesapeake Bay fishing.

I think I finally learned the fundamentals of how to present soft lures to fish after 25 years of adult fishing. I think I can improve from now on.

Large mouth Bass on my typical bay lure (or was I using fresh water lures in the Bay?):

I also caught several crappies on a tiny minnows:

Nice bass and crappy. I like freshwater fishing in the winter. If you get two or three nice, sunny days in a row, hit the sunny parts of the lake on the third day. I've caught lots of bass at the various lakes I've fished in Virginia that way, particularly in February. If you can find standing timber, you can practice your jigging for crappie just like you would at the Bay Bridge. Pickerel will hit many of the same lures as bass, flounder, and puppy drum. Pickerel are another favorite winter target for me.
