Hit the river (Rapp) today about 8. Decided to jig a honey hole. When we got there the FF showed pretty good marks on the bottom. Started jigging and had our limit in about 30 minutes, a 37", 2-24" and a 21". The 37 was a hoot on light tackle. For awhile we were not sure we would get her to the boat. Played C & R for a little while and decided to check out a few more favorite haunts. Nobody home at those locations, so we called it a day and came back to the dock to clean fish. All the Fish hit a red jig head with white shad. Water temp was 56-58. Picture of the big lady below.

:bigfish: Nice fish for the early part of season! I got a 43 inch last year the third week of October in the Rapp. Hope there are some big girls around this weekend.

Tom, just a few scattered birds picking at anchovies on the surface. Did not see any signs of fish pushing the bait. But the fish have begun to move. Most of the places we have been catching them for the last 4 weeks were bare.
John, based on the fish marks there are a few more nice ones out there. When we saw the marks, we thought they might go 30". Didn't expect one that big.
Howard, thanks! I was really impressed with that St Croix rod you recommended. It did a couple of 270's with no rod twist or any sign of problems.
Ware, right that is a bait pen floating by the dock.
