The Northern in Newport News didnt have much when I was brake shopping. Went to Portsmouth Trailer. They hooked me up with a nice Kodiak disc set. Nice helpful people and they know what you need to do the job.

if you change from drum to disk or vice versa you have to change the actuator there is a difference in the pressure and they just dont work right mismatched.
I ordered the parts from eastern trailer in MD they were of good quality and are willing to give tech support to the average Joe soing an install.
Right now, I'm in the middle of researching brakes for a trailer I'm getting ready to purchase. based on what I have found, Kodiak disk brakes are the only way to go. I've heard that Tie-Down has changed their caliper to a single piston unit, but it seems no one on the boards wants to risk it knowing that Kodiak works. So basedon that, go Kodiak!!

where do i get kodiac, all i see is tie down ?
I'm getting the brakes factory installed and I have no idea on who might have Kodiak brakes in Va. I think you can purchase direct from the manufacturer http://www.kodiaktrailer.com/redswish/ and they do have a list of distributors on their site.
You might want to try S & S Marine http://www.s-smarine.com/ . They carry Loadmaster and Loadmaster uses Kodiaks.

I used to struggle with the drum brakes all the time; wheel locking up, brakes not coming on right and so on. I switched to Kodial disc brakes and couldn't be happier.
Disc brakes are not recommended for light loads though. Champion Trailers has a good article about the brakes on their web site (I think - or it may have been in their catalog) which discusses the two types. Light load is considered to be anything under 3,000 pounds.
Oh yeah, Portsmouth Trailer has Kodiaks and are very helpful in setting you up. I chose the cadmium plated everything because they told me that 1) there was a two year warranty on them and 2) when I asked if they were having to service the cadmiums them all the time they told me no. Get the ventilated discs because the single plate non-ventilated warp easy from heat and then the dunking in the cold water.
The cadmiums are about 1/2 the price of all stainless which is about $350 per wheel. The cadmiums are about $170 per wheel. At tleast these were the prices quoted me when I got mine a while back.
DISC BRAKES all the way................ [excited]

I was in Portsmouth Trailer Sales a couple of days ago and they convinced me to get rid of my drum brake induced headaches by going with the Kodiak discs.
Sandtiger was right on with the pricing. The ones for appox. $170ea. have cadmium coated parts except for the caliper which is SS.
It's a complete assembly (hub, bearings, seal, etc) so installation is not real difficult.
They have a display with the Kodiak and Tie Down for comparison.
Also, the nice lady told me you don't have to change your actuator. You can puncture the diaphram in the master cylinder and they will work just fine. Of course if you want to change the actuator they will be glad to sell you a new one

don't forget that you must have a solonoid valve to stop the brake fluid when you back up the trailer. It is hooked to the backup lights
