I know a lot of membrs here at the tidalfish.com forum. use thehulltruth.com forum.
Well, guess what.Out of the blue today-they started restricting access to the popular"boating forum" even for registered members unless they join"The Captains Club" for $29.95 per year.
They still have the chutpah to have a message in the upper right hand corner of their site saying it is a "free forum"
The guys running that board went down in my opinion. If they gave some sort of notice that wouldn't be so bad--but they way they handled this shows the ethics of a NYC street vendor

I am a THT.com registered member, and not a Captains Club member, I havent had any trouble viewing the forums there yesterday or today. By the way, see you are from WC. I live in Broomall.

Marketing and customer service isnt the guys strong point. Some good info and fun over there though.

I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE THAT THIS HAPPENED TO.rEAD THE MEASSAGES AT THE BOARD.
Just tried it and I got in without any reservations--but I did not imagine yesterday I read the message that I couldn't get into the Boat Talk Forum without being a Captains's Club Member.
Either a computer glitch, trail ballon,or they reconsidered the move.

You have that quite right!! [excited][excited][excited]
I haven't been there for quite some time. I am a subscriber here and have no problem doing so as long as it is reasonable. They all have advertisers and they tell their advertisers we read the board and there are so many of us etc. to get them to advertise - and they pay more than the average Joe to do so. $29 is a way bit too much in my opinion and I will not be part of a support sytem for that board at those prices. $10 a year is about the limit unless I'm given good justification why more is needed.
I don't need The Hull Truth; this board is fine and dandy and just great!! [grin][grin][grin][grin][grin]

i am a captains club there. He does this once a year to spur on memberships. I think it is worth it. But, he will open it back up in a week or so if that is what is going on.

Strange way to "market" your site.
Why not lower it to $10-15 and spend more time to "ask" or "encourage" support like most other sites do---a lot more of a gentlemanly and refined approach,in my opinion.
I for one would join--as I have done on several other sites for crabbing and hunting---instead of ticking me and others off.
