Myself and my 2nd hunter went Sun to the pre hunt meeting which was very good. I have been to lots of meeting like this for deer hunts and fishing tournaments and most are not much fun, this was different.

Monday morning opening day was perfect weather with the temps in the low 30's and lite wind. We were hunting private land that bordered Savage river state forest. We were hunting 90 yds from the public land, that where all of the sign and food was. Poke berries, acorns and hickory nuts were thick along with pleanty of bear scat. Things were quiet as far as the bears go the first day although we did see about a dozen deer, one buck was chasing hard. We called in at 2 to check the number of bears taken so far and the number was 8. By 9 that evening when the mandatory call in time came around they had checked 34 and the hunt was still on.

Tuesday morning the temps were in the high 40's and it was overcast. I had to talk my second hunter JR into shooting if he saw a bear and I was not sitting with him. The first day we sat together because he said he would not shoot a bear on my tag. The second day we set up about 50 yds apart so we could watch 2 different flats and cover more ground. At about 8:45 JR spots a bear going above us and could not get my attention, of course we did not bring any radios. I don't think I could of seen the bear from where I was sitting. The bear started over the top and he finally shot the bear at just over 90 yds.
He was an average size MD bear with a live weight of 150 lbs and he had a beautiful coat. We were both about as happy as two hunters get, it was a down hill drag to a spot we could get the buggie to. We never broke a sweat getting him out. I have to thank Jim for allowing us to hunt his property, I can't wait until one of us draws another tag. Of course I don't know how to post a photo.

Congrats on your bear. I have killed a few in Canada but none in MD. Bear meat is very tasty but you have to cook it well done. There are plenty bears in MD, VA and W. VA........Gary

Congrats! I hunted two days with two friends- we saw plenty of wildlife but no bears, but I agree that it was a well run hunt & meeting, and I didn't mind being in the 75% that didn't use a tag. I hope to try again in future years, might even start looking out of state........
