Put in at Occoneechee and caught all butter-beans in Sandy and Marina cove. Kept culling till I realized that was all I was gonna get, so I started keeping them. They wound up working OK for me. Caught 11 stripers in the straight-a-way. All were between 15 and 25 inches. Four fish were right at 25 inches. Water is 63 at the curve and 61.5 above the bridges. Heavy overcast and no wind...perfect conditions. All fish came on free lines 10 pulls, one big split shot. Good seeing DoRight and Ramrod on the water. Good luck.

little boy blue,
thanks for the report. we are going to give it another try the morning. I will post our report. It wont be long before you are taking your son with you. Did you fish on any schools? did you fish the hump inbetween the channels or the points close to shore?
Glad you made it out.

Crawdad,
I fished the shallow water between the ditches. Bait was stacked up on the ledge. Most fish came from schools, but two were hitch-hikers. I sure hope the upcomiung colder weather brings out the bigger baits.
By the way, I was not paying attention to where I was going and picking baits out of the Christmas tree while the trolling motor was still running when all of a sudden I heard what sounded like a high-powered rifle from the bow. Turned out I was concentraing so hard on picking out gilled baits from the net that I forgot about the bridge pilling that I was heading toward in the marina cove. It cracked my fiberglass / plastic molding on the bow pretty bad. I never knew trolling motor speed was so hazardous. Lesson learned. Does anyone know of a good fiberglass repair shop in the Raleigh area? I know of one on HWY 70 in Garner.
