Good question...Im interested in the answer to it also. From my experience in a number of states, if there isnt a posted regulation that says you cannot hunt during a certain season/firearm then you should be fair game. Ive never hunted in VA, but now that Im living here full time I may need to give it a go. The regulations, seasons and lack of land around make it an interesting experience, thats for sure.

i'm pretty sure theres a lot of duck hunting that goes on down there. i'm guessing smoke pole means black powder, so i'm not sure about that

there is duck and deer hunting. I know that sluggs are not allowed but I can't find anything about muzzleloading.

If you are talking about the area just past the JRB, I'm not sure. I don't like public land personally. And, years ago, there was a lot of pole smoking going on in the areas up front supposedly. I think law enforcement got rid of those guys. AND, I'm pretty sure some guy was murdered there about 18 to 20 years ago. Good luck.

well... I take a boat to where I hunt, wear tons of orange and make sure I make plenty of human noises when I'm walking through the woods. I guess I'll wait until Saturday.

No muzzeloaders allowed at Ragged Island. FYI, I've been checked by the Game Warden twice at Ragged Island.
Look in local firearm ordinances for Isle of Wight... (on page 18 in the book)
#35 It shall be unlawful to possess outside of a vehicle, or shoot or hunt with a
rifle, muzzleloader, pistol, or shotgun loaded with slugs, or to possess shotgun
slugs on Ragged Island Wildlife Management Area in Isle of Wight County. In addition, it shall be unlawful to discharge any firearm within 100 yards of the boardwalk or nature trail
on Ragged Island Wildlife Management Area.
I hope this info helps you out.
Off topic, but I saw a show on TV about the Colonial Parkway killer, a serial killer in VA who was never caught. Two of his victims, were found on the shoreline of Ragged Island in the 1980's. A guy and young girl were both killed at the same time. Creepy.
