HIT N RUN

Sat 7th, crew: Chuck,Stephen,Scott,Bert,Jimmy & I.

Fished a smooth ocean from the 420-540. Best marks for us were around the 445 but were deep all day. Could not buy a Tuna all day. Lots of boats/pressure keeping the fish down. Tried the jigs but didn't score much except junk fish. Ended up on the north change around the 530-40 area 200 fathoms or so & got a lucky wham with 5 big class Wahoo at once. Ended up with 2 studs with the rest pulling of or breaking off.

final: (Two DAY SAVER Wahoo's):sweatdrop::chugbeer: & 1 flip flop gaffer.

Sun 8th, crew: Bert,Carson,Mike,Mike L, & I.

Started a bit further south 380 or so on up the line. Lots of buddy boats. Found some good bites right out of the gate, Wahoo cut off, nice gaffer & a single Tuna first thing but then things slowed way down again. The great bite on the 400 from the day before was not to be for us. Lots of trash fish along the way but no more Yellowfin until we got back to that same area 450 overboard where again, we had the deep marks. This day we remembered to bring the deep rig so we did manage to scrap out a single on it. Had some other Yellowfin bites that didn't stay tight on the surface stuff also but didn't hold on to them. We then continued on up the line where we found the Yellowfin rolling on the surface 520-30 but they were hard to get a bite from. Lots of boats & calm seas had them spooked. May of been able to get one on a popper but were not rigged up for it.

Ended up at the tip of the Point where by now the water had pushed in over the bottom. Finally!!! Lots of Blackfin in this area. Very easy to catch on the speed jigs. Fun to do & made the day finishing off the box.

Ended with,
pretty good catch of Dolphin off a end bed grass clump bailing.
2 yellowfin
1 gaffer
Ton of Blackfin
Lots of junk fish (not sure if pics were took)???? crew can add if so.

Mon 9th, crew: Bill, John R, John, Paul, Jake, & I.

Water was now finally over the bottom above the Point. Color & temp was perfect with minimal tide & far fewer boats. Today was to be the day (old boy) as Bert would say;-).

Lines in at 7:00 on the 590 along the edge & worked up the cliffs. Got creamed non stop by the baby shoebox Blackfin. Picked our baits to death. The boys were steady re-rigging
Jake & Pino were have fun getting them while trolling by just sending back the speed jigs while doing 6.5 knots:eek2: You could of pounded the bigger ones by stopping but it was way too early for that & I had my mind set come hell or high water of finding Yellowfin marks so on we went up the line steady re-rigging & slinging little Blackfins until we hit the 618 just overboard where all hell broke loose. Then we just kept her in a circle over the marks steady fire-in out baits & speed jigs. The boys in the pit ruled this day managing all the trolled bites plus hooked numerous bonus Yellowfin on the speed jigs when we were able to go slow enough & conditions in the SNAKE PIT would allow. Just one of those days that make up for all the slow ones. Super fun morning. Limit by 9:15.

Then we moved over to a rip that had healthy grass & managed a handful of bailers but were not too well rigged up for them. So after the fish & crew lost interest in each other we decide to drop down 2 deep rigs for a while looking for a bite on a possible Wahoo. Well that didn't happen so the decision to either go back down to the 590 for the Blackfin on the jigs or Tile to the north was left up to the crew & they chose the Tile so off we steamed into the 42-45 fathoms area & were happy to find them home & hungry.

Pulled lines around noon after Pino finished an epic battle with a Hammer head that Jake decide to make friends with. I had no idea how docile the Hammer Heads really are. I didn't think it was a good idea but he said he does it all the time & is experienced in handling them so I allowed it against my fears. Right or wrong all turned out well as the fish was carefully lip gaffed & lifted out of the water for a few quick pics & then released & it swam away quickly so I guess all went perfect but (disclaimer) DO NOT EVER TRY THIS AT HOME.:eek2:

Just Kidding Jake, you were right, they are very docile. Now a Mako, thats a whole different story.

Congrats Pino on the big jig fish. Haven't seen the pic but would imagine it was a cool one.

BTW: for all the buddy boats out there, We decide to stop on one of the MILLON schools of fish working the surface in that cooler inside water & trolled around then with small spoons. They are pretty nice sized False Alb's & would be a blast on fly gear.

Also it was intresting to see Ocean Sunfish right smack dab in the middle of the inlet at the bar bouy, Man that would suck hitting one of those & bending another rudder. Thanks for the heads up Point Runner & again pretty work on your day.:clapping2:

Ended with Blackfin, bailers (mostly small)
Yellowfin limit
Tile limit. Home early for once. Yeah!! I'm tired.

( Hope crew can add some pics. )

Thanks for the fun weekend guys. See ya again soon.

Great fishing with all the buddy boats. Pretty work on your catches!!!!

Thanks again Bill it was a blast. Good time. good crew. great fishing. It was good to get out there and get the tuna fix in. Nice class of tiles too. some of those ones in the front there are around 12-13 pounds. I think there will be some really great pics of that shark that come out of the deal. I know we were some kinda busy down there most of the morning and there probably arent a whole bunch of pictures of the tuna fishing. 2 hours- about 8 packs of hoos, and got to catch some yellers on the jigs. Here's the only pic I got. Its a dockshot from my phone. Not bad for quitting fishing at lunch time.

and Pino caught one on the jig that made him cry. He always cries when he catches big fish.

Good job, I knew Monday was going to come together. Did u have much fog? Thanks for the report. Fog was bad in spots during the drive to the boat in the AM but not too bad on the water. Was able to leave with no hold ups. I was surprised it wasn't worse.

I sure wish I had planned to hit it again yesterday the 10th. Great fishing for everyone that went. Fish seem to know when blows are coming & snap big time. Hope this blow doesn't jack things up too bad. The inlet has been awesome lately. Sounds like we are gonna have NE fetch for days.

Thanks for the kind replies.

Hope to get some pics from John of Mon. Don't have his # though. If so will add later.
