Here is my video Fishing Log for Nov 14, 2009.

I fished St. Jerome's Creek first until the wind calmed down to 10-13 knots. Then I went toward Point-No-Point Light.
On the way back, chased the birds and caught under-sized stripers.

No keepers.

Thanks for making those videos, it adds a lot to the reports. Looks like you had a good time out there. Too bad about the sail breaking. Are you going to try to find a stronger material to use for the window?

I was thinking about your two lost fish. Did you notice any scales on the hook when the jig came up? It looked like the fish were pulling hard. I've lost a couple jigged fish and noticed scales on the hook. I probably foul hooked the fish somewhere after they hit the jig, and the hook pulled out on the way up. In my case, they were probably smaller fish that felt big since they were foul hooked.

Were you bouncing the jig on the bottom or letting it hit the bottom then jigging it up back to the boat? Just curious about technique in case I get out there sometime soon.

TmPerkins,

I did not expect the Mylar sheet split like that. This is why the testing must be performed vigorously and for a long period time.

One thing I did not follow the advice on Mylar Sheet Sail was that I fold the sail many times for weeks or kept the sail folded inside the bow hatch.

I think I should not have the torn Mylar sheet this early if I always rolled the sail.

I guess I need more testing before I publish the specifications and instructions for the home made sails

The window is not necessary because the sail is small. Though it is nice to have it.
I don’t think I can find the better material for window than Mylar sheet. I bought a roll of Mylar sheet (4’ wide 25’ long) I am going to repair the window with the same material and test again. Also I am making a modified version of the Sail with 100% Mylar sheet to see if how long the Mylar Sail last.

Bill,

I used a new helmet this time and I had set the camera angle way off the close object. I did not start video for the first striper by mistake. I could see the stripers. But they were not captured on video. The lure was inside of the mouths. The hook was not just set firmly I guess. Between 10:00AM-1100AM (high tide at 11:40AM), there were stripers at 23-25”. A guy on another Jon boat caught a 23” on a live bull minnow. This is why I posted a thread asking if you are going fishing.

I also jigged 5-10' of water south of the inlet in the Bay side because Mike and his buddy told me that they were catching 30 inchers a few days ago. But I did not catch hook any fish.

If you need to keep the sail in your bow hatch, you may be able to do a combo of folding and rolling to ensure that the mylar isn't folded. I remember when I used to sail we would first fold the sail and then roll it. This allowed the sails to fit in the sail bags but not be folded to much. Hope this helps.
