My yak shot wouldn't up load so I'll have to post this one from last weekend. They're coming this way...ready?

The drum was caught at Ocracoke Island last week from the surf. I used an 11'6 mini-heaver and a fishfinder rig baited with half a menhaden head and weighted with a 6-ounce tongue sinker. Definitely a yakable spot, and plenty of drum. If the weather’s right, I may be shooting it next weekend. Anyone wanna join? Moreover, the drum are coming and we’ll be fishing for them on the Eastern Shore in another month. Training starts now. Greg’s on a Hobie but it isn’t as huge as it looks, like 12 foot long. Chris, as always, you are a sick and twisted individual with entirely too much time on your hands as you wait for the wind to stop blowing. Hilarious, reminds me of the monster biter I hooked and jumped off in Sandbridge last summer. He’s still out there, and this year he’ll be even bigger!

Ric, nice fish. Those waves in the background don't look yakable to me.

Are you talking this weekend....like the 16th? where is this place? I suppose we could take a couple yaks in the ranger if it is closer than say.....canada.....?

I'm talkin' April 23. The waves are rough on the ocean side of the island but a couple hundred yards around the corner, on the inlet side, it's like a bathtub. Ocracoke is about 4 hours south, on North Carolina's Outer Banks. I plan to drive down Friday afternoon, fish Ocracoke for drum all night Friday and all day Saturday, then I'm hopping the ferry and going to Morehead City, where I'll jump on board the Carolina Princess for an 18 hour reef fishing trip. Then drive 3 hours home Sunday night. Who's up for that? All of this is dependent on the weather, we need a south wind for Ocracoke and calm seas to head offshore. Trip on the Carolina Princess: 80 bucks, Ocracoke/Cedar Island Ferry: 20 bucks, five pounds of fat back bunker: 10 bucks, landing a 46 inch red drum from the beach then riding 60 miles offshore and loading the cooler with snapper, grouper, and sea bass: priceless

I have to work on the 23...(sucks) i was also wondering when you sleep during all this...i mean i get a total pleutonic chubby for fishing, but i need my beauty sleep. [grin] What is the carolina princess? ( a charter?) be patient with me, Ric i am a rookie....lol Ohhh...and R U taking your kayak for the first day? Is there good kayak fishing down there like for another time maybe?

Sleep? I'll sleep when I'm dead. The Carolina Princess is a 95-foot headboat. Here's a link to the web site. www.carolinaprincess.com I plan on taking the kayak with me and using it if I get the chance, otherwise I'll be surf fishing. Even if you can only make part of the trip, you should go. I'd love some company. Open invitation to any FHBs out there.

Ric,
Your Bmail doesn't say when you are going and for how long. I am committed to "other endeavors" for my first 36-48 hours at home, I may not even come up for air. Post up the dates and times for the trip and I'll see what I can do, I have a bunch of trips planned so I'll see if I can get my liberty pass for when you are going. Oh yeah, you stole my "I'll sleep when I'm dead" phrase, but it's cool because you resemble the remark.

Chad

I'll sleep when I'm dead is the oldest cliche on the planet, next to "the oldest cliche on the planet." Anyway, I'm going April 23 and 24. Will you be up for air then? The invitation is open to anyone who would like to go. I'd really like company on the shoals. Please B-mail or call if you have questions: 289-5136.

"I'll sleep when I'm dead" may be a cliche but here's another one, "If the shoe fits, wear it". It definately fits Ric, Chad, and a bunch of others of us who have little kids at home. We play with the kids and put them to bed then grab the rods and head out on the freezing cold and dark water knowing we have to work tommorrow. And then stay out even later than we need to just because "the bite is on".

WHAT A BUNCH OF WACKOS!

I don't know, Chad's a beast, I doubt he'll even sleep when he's dead. We'd fish off Sandbridge or the Eastern Shore all day and I'd be exhuasted and he'd be heading to the HRBT to catch the incomming. Can't wait till the beast gets home so I'll have someone to play with. After his wife's done with him, of course. Kevin leaves for the swamp in a month. Hurry up beast, the fish are bitin'.

Where is the swamp and is he leaving permanently? greg

The swamp stretches from Florida to his back yard in Norfolk and whether or not he's leaving permanately (or whether he's ever been all there in the first place) is yet to be seen. In a month Kevin's embarking on an 1800 mile solo kayak tour from the panhandle of Florida to his house. It should take him 6 months or more...

Okay Ric,
Here's a cliche for you "I am in there, like swimwear". I am in if I don't have to work and the wife doesn't threaten to leave me. You know, I have been gone for six months and it's like "Uh, babe, I am uh, thinking about uh, maybe uh going to the uh Outer Banks this weekend" and she'll say "Are you serious, you just got home" and I'll reply "I've been home for 7 days" and she'll say "Do you have to go this weekend" and then I drop the "The drum are there and they are huge, they will only be there for another week or so" and she buckle and say "Okay babe, be careful, wait-you're not going with Ric are you"
Anyway, it'll go something like that so I'll give you a call this week.
CPR,
Chad

Try using this argument, "Ric's going and it's his anniversary." That's right, I was married on the 24th of April. Heaven help any holiday that falls on a full moon. Behind every great fisherman is a great woman, I couldn't catch a cold in a wind storm without an understanding and patient wife. I know yours is equally forgiving, that and we drive them nuts when we're cooped up around the house. I was supposed to attend a flyfishing shindig in the moutains but they planned it for the wrong weekend. What were they thinking! My brother and another buddy are going, too. The drum were running strong on Ocracoke before the storm and starting to show up on the Point. Fishing out of Morehead has been excellent when the boats can get out. They've had limits of snappers and big grouper along with cobia and dolphin. And with the weather (winds to 50 knots for five days) those fish should be real hungry by next weekend. Figure out what you want to do, the boat is filling fast and you need to make a reservation. Come on dudes, lets go fishing! 289-5136
