Looks like the State of Md got a pretty good deal on buying out the "Inactive" LCC licenses.
According to Tom Powers, who is on the VMRC blue crab advisory committee, the VA In-Active license holders are getting offered $8K. The Part Timers are getting an average offer of $18K and the Full timers average is $57K.
Some individual offers where reported to be $100K!

I hear that, and they wondered why so many balked at that bs offer.. Question is what is the great state of MD doing with the money that was funded to them...:nono:

If someone wanted to buy a active LCC what is a fair price?

Typically, the business transfers of LCC's and "gear" are running around $4500.00.

and just think about it. 10 years ago i bought an lcc and gear- what we call a bizz, for 500.00 of course that was 2000.00 on paper. i wonder what they'll be worth 10 years from now when we'll probably be in a limited entry catch shares or quota fishery.

Carefull heimdall might read you the riot act for your bizz transfer. You may wanna edit and delete now to save yourself the preaching.

I think they are averaging more between 3000 to 4000. I landed mine this year for 3250. Just my personal opinion from trying to find one this year.

So somebody possibly breaking the law, is now, non of my business.
Tell me. Where do you draw the line on that???
Should I be concerned when a guy poaches, but look the other way, when a guy makes false statements that could impact a fishery?
Double standards don't work, never will. You can't pick the laws you want to abide by and the ones you don't..

It's not about standards but rather about discretion. Your knit-picking is frivilous. Of course you shouldn't over-look poaching or crabbing without an authorized permits and if you called someone out for it I'm sure you would have this boards full support. But, that is not your intentions. You are right double standards don't work and we aren't suggesting that they do. We mearly are saying pick your battles, preferably the ones that serve a greater good ex... sewage runoff, farm pollution, litter, poaching, etc. These are some of the offences that if changed can make a true difference in our Bay. Is this discussion because Heimdall called out Jim Rockfish for trying to buy a license when he didn't meet the qualifications to do so?

I guess every time you see a law broken you go after them . I guess your so perfect you never went over the speed limit on land or water . Gosh I hope you turned your self in when you did so Thats a Laugh . This is not worth any more words . Have a great Lawful life guy
I think after reading these posts that some of you guys owe Heimdall an apology - he pointed out the requirements of the law, which were being circumvented. As for Jim Rockfish not realizing that he was violating the law, I have heard forever that "ignorance of the law is no excuse". If he holds all of the security clearances he claims, he should already know this.
Uno - Did you ever hear me say that I was planning to buy the license - once I learned the reqs? I'll admit to learning in public but not to intending to circumvent the laws. You are also making false accusations. The license came up for sale on this board and the brother of the same guy who was selling the license also had one for sale. I could have purchased it but I didn't. Ignorance of the law is no excuse IF YOU BREAK A LAW. That guy's LCC is still available for $3500 and there is another one for $3800 plus one for $4500 with gear I'm aware of that are for sale right now.
I'm not accusing you of breaking or attempting to break the law. I'm pointing out that you guys are busting Heimdall's chops for showing that you were ABOUT to break the law until he quoted the law to you. Perhaps you should just admit that you didn't know the rules and thank Heimdall for pointing them out to you and saving you from unwittingly becoming a criminal.

I did admit that I didn't know the rules but Heimdall could have taken the high road vs. the low road with his approach. That's why I said that everyone else is has been helpful and he has been down right accusatory without probable cause. If he had just said, "Jim, did you know that the law has changed since you held a comm license? Here's a link that may HELP" I know Matt, RJ, Polecat, Burchbeer, Crabby and Son, Bayhead, Capt Dale, Capt Brad... others personally, some better than others but I know them all to be really good guys. If Heimdall really knew me, he wouldn't make such strong accusations. He has a big chip on his shoulder and strikes me as someone who is a bitter, unhappy person.
Yeah. And you just arrived in Maryland yesterday; joined this site; are unfamiliar with the crabbing laws, and all you friends forgot to tell you the rules....... You really have to sharpen your spin skills.
Bwahahahahaha.

Heim you sure know how to flatter yourself.
Definiton in reference of "heimdall'
Heimdall is one of the Æsir (gods) in Norse mythology, called the "whitest of the gods". Heimdall is the guardian of the gods and of the link between Midgard and Asgard, the Bifrost Bridge. Legends foretell that he will sound the Gjallarhorn, alerting the Æsir to the onset of Ragnarök where the world ends and is reborn.
Heimdall, as guardian, is described as being able to hear grass growing and single leaves falling, able to see to the end of the world, and so alert that he requires no sleep at all. Heimdall is described as a son of Odin, perhaps a foster son. Heimdall was destined to be the last of the gods to perish at Ragnarök when he and Loki would slay one another.
Don't kid yourself clown. When it comes down to it you are nothing and never will be. I'm routing for Loki.

Yeh but It's different if you use a play on words to make fun of yourself. It's a little egotistical the other way. Believe me I know what i was doing by using this screen name. And if he is a Marvel fan he needs to grow up.

I know it's useless to argue with a five year old's mentality, but collecting valuable comic books is a good investment.

Matt - I try not to take ignorant people seriously. This guy was never taught basic manners and your earlier comment, "didn't your mother give you love" is probably right on the money. What happens eventually is they push the wrong person's buttons and end up learning to respect others the hard way. Hymen is an instigator; check out his current needling on the Chesapeake Board discussion thread concerning "Estimate of 2009 ..." rockfish numbers. Waste of skin. Jim
With the mention of my mother, it's time we meet in person. Check your bmail.
