Crew: Bert,Joey,Barry,Shane & me.

Lots of morning fog (pea soup) made for a long ride down the sound but cleared up quite a bit around Wanchese. Then it was the 7:00 am hold up at the inlet in fine form. Doable but had to count sets & get it right. Lots of boats piled up going one at a time at just the right moment. Made it through just right & then a comfortable steam at 75 degrees to the 930 line rigs in at 9:30am. Flat lines going back wards right out of the gate with 2 staying tight.

Sweet we thought:thumbup:, starting just inside the fleet in about 80 fathoms. We soon heard the lack of bites on the radio for them so Just then the call came from below & soon they all picked up to run south to that same pretty water that had moved out but had been holding for the past few weeks. Seem's it had pused back in some & was producing well again.

Since we had just got lines in & also had hooked up we chose to stay & instead work north steady listening to the bites up there from the Vb boats on 79. Water looked a bit cloudy to me but the temps seemed to be the same for us as what the VB boats having luck in were, 72-73 degrees so we just kept on zig zagging up the line looking for birds & Bonita signs but never found the marks. The bite the day before we heard was between the 950-980 so the hope was to find them soon enough.

Well by now it was getting to be 11:30 or so & with all the good fishing on the radio both above & below us with us still in the middle seriously "SUCKING HIND TIT", I had to make a move & so with the thought of a closer run home from the southern bite, I pointed her south to the 850 (300) fathoms where we set lines back in with the remainder of the fleet who hadn't quite finished their limits yet ;-) in a cleaner 73.4-8 Tuna looking water but once again hooked right up but this time it was a screamer staying way down. Shane was a real brute, man-handling this beast of a fight for the next hour & a half finally ending in huge disappointment even though we all new that the fight didn't feel right but after all the time & effort was at least hoping for a beast of a shark or of course
something better still. Well the beast finally came to view with leader in hand & it was one of those (big as your entire cockpit) Manta rays.:helpsmilie:.

Cut the leader then trolled our way back in from (at this point), 600 fathoms back in to the 100 with lines out at about 2:45pm without so much a a single sniff. Just one of those trips when you just can't get it going.

A surprisingly nice ride in considering the rain & wind that moved in to pick up the seas directly at our homeward heading. Just enough following sea to keep the nose down scooting us right along making the bar at 4:30 with the inlet much improved since the morning. All in all a great day boating wise other than the morning hold ups from fog & inlet but surprisingly poor fishing results compared to most others lucky enough to be out there on such a nice fishing/weather day.

OH WELL, as my Dad used to always say to us kids while asking for something he didn't want to either Do right then, or Buy us kids at the store. "Maybe Next Time"

Ended the day with only 2 out of 3 Yellowfin & a huge winged critter.

Happy Thanksgiving

Bill.

Bill,

I fished with Dave and we were also in that "no man's land" for a while. We only missed the right starting point by about 1.5 miles but you make your best guess and roll with it! We ended up getting back in the right area around 10:30 and quickly had a throw back Mako. Then about 20 min. later we got the bites we were looking for and the marks. At that point, Trax went to work and everyone on board got rolling and we made a great day of it. Had a great crew with the Juggernaut boys Calvin and Kelly, Sublime Jim, Stinky Lee, STINKY Tommy and Sasquatch me...

The tunas probably slept easier that night knowing they finally survived one of your onslaughts! Keep after em'!

Darn Bill- We were in that " wrong water" around the 950 surrounded by both fleets-then it was a ghost town. Waverunner Pat put it on the radio (could not hear Mike) but I've never caught a fish running so I'm always the last one to pick up. Got a late start on the bite but my diehards stayed late with the 2 tones going nuts around us. Tommy got us a bonus fish on the jig- but I'm adding GAS masks to my ditch bag for his next trip. Hope some fish stay between us Bill.

Better make it a full blown nuclear waste suit with mask Dave...my skin has blisters wherever it was exposed!

Bill,

Thanks for the invite, sorry to hear about the slow day. I'm still down south in the barn building biz and sneaking to the tree stand every eve. Wed. was a good day for me in the stand. I aint much of a deer hunter but this year Ive been putting in my time.
I got three on Ice. One of which is a monster 8 pointer about 180 dressed out:D:D
Season ends saturday so I will be watching the weather.

Thanks for the trip Bill.. Had a great time, although that inlet was sick.. I'd rather be sucking tits than working.

Glad to see you made it out Bill. We where up north here sucking turkey . Tried to get my daughter from SC out on the bay that week, but wind blew and the rains came down.
Have a good Holiday Season.

Thanks guys. Sounds like the fishing has been as good as it gets but the weather has been terrible for small boats. I blew it on my only shot. Wish I had either done better on Wed or had gone back either Thanksgiving day or last Sunday cause they were the only other fish-able days.

Now I'm stuck getting snow stuff ready for our winter season. Looks like it will be a good while before I get the next chance to fish. Hope some fish will still be around by then. Good luck to anyone who gets back out. The OI & PC fleet are just flat out crushing them from what I can see from the pics & not all have been the small class fish that were up north. I'm guessing some action further south has been happening. Saw a sat shot with water over the bottom from earlier this week. Hope it holds up for them. Looks like Trophy Hunter even managed a bonus Blue one off a hooked Tuna as a nice center piece to their early limit day on (Mon I think). Bad ass!!!

Wish I had a bigger boat & time to use it. Love that ocean!

OK back to rigging plows/sanders & such. Take it easy.

Trophy Hunter Report- thought it was worth posting. Bad ass:

Yesterday was another gamble for us. Our group was originally planned to fish on Tuesday but the weather forecast was marginal. We had wind predicted for Tuesday morning and then again on Wednesday afternoon. We took a chance that it would be better to start the day off calm. If we were lucky we might get back in before the wind hit. Luck was on our side as we were setting the baits out. We had five bites on the first five baits in the water. From there it was a steady pick keeping one or two on as we covered some ground. We had an added bonus for December. As Joey was about to gaff one of the yellowfins he noticed some bright blue down in the water. It was a blue marlin looking for a snack. The blue marlin swallowed the tuna less then ten feet from the boat. It was neat to see. The fished weighed about 300- 350 pounds. It took about an hour to catch and our early departure time was running out. The wind and sea were starting to build. Suddenly we hooked six yellowfins at one time. We had reached our limit and headed for the dock. Great Fall fishing! Thanks and I hope you enjoyed the trip.
