i fish the honga a lot b/c there are 2 bridges there w/ lots of fishy structure near big water. i've got some days off coming and i might be open to switching things up. i plan on fishing fly and light tackle out of my kayak somewhere. any suggestions? some options i've considered:
janes island if the shallow bite is still on
lynnhaven, but i'm not sure if it's still good there
potomac for walleye
let me know what you think!

I'm not sure where you're planning on fishing the Potomac, but northern VA (at least where my folks live) has gotten a crazy amount of rain lately. The few places I fish in that neck of the woods aren't very good when it's high and muddy. Never tried for walleye, though.

Yea too bad the Potomac will be muddy. CHeck the usgs but I'm sure it will go up after todays rain. I'm planning on hitting the area around Anglers with the yak sooner or later though. Looks mighty fishy down there. THe other place would be right below Great Falls while launching at the Va side and paddling over to MD side. But it's fast, tricky and it's no place for inexperience. Never tried in fast water like that, except Kent Narrows on a ripping tide which was pretty easy. Launching at Anglers would be better and paddle up for walleye in the eddies. Most of my walleye fishing is done from shore and I do pretty well when I finally get round to putting in the effort which means quite a bit of hiking and rock hopping in that same general area.
If west winds were in the forecast I'd say Ocean City area up through DE and launch off the beach or even fish the bay. I had a good bite of schoolies under dock lights from shore with a fly rod on the bay side on Wednesday night and kicked myself for not having a kayak handy. Then the beach lit up with blitzing blues even in a 30mph west wind. THe seas were flat as a pancake and the fish were around. It would have been easy as pie to launch in the surf with those west winds last week. I heard SUnday and Monday was epic for surf fishermen in the area. I fished IRI inside and caught some stripers from shore but the beach guys did a number on BIG blues with gannets paving the way. Even some big stripers too. Not many though as when the big blues are around they tend to roll alone or stripers get a little scared.
