Was winterizing and replacing gear oil in the lower unit (150 Yamaha 2004 HPDI). I put hte top seal in loosely and gave a couple more pumps of oil, then oil came out of a small hole a couple of inches below the top seal. It came out for about a minute and then stopped. I've never seen this happen before and was wondering if I created pressure in the lower unit that popped a pressure valve or some kind of seal. The manual was no help. The next day there was a small amount of oil there again. Was wondering if I could have damaged something pumping the oil in with the top plug in loosely? Be suprised if that was the case, but don't want a suprise in March! Any thoughts?

That's what I was afraid of. What was needed to fix it? Relatively easy job? I feel like a Jack A$$$$!

Once oil runs out the top hole, it's full. Any more can cause issues as unfortunately you may have found out. More isn't always better.
