The Captains meeting was a small turnout but did have a beer truck:thumbup: Woke up at 9am this morning and went to marina to unload boat. Back in Richmond by noon and glad i did not prepay for the tournament- Will more than likely end up as a raffle should it not be fishable Sunday- No thanks

Did get out in the river yesterday afternoon and caught our limit of smaller fish on the Bay side of the WSB in 40-60ft= Plenty of bait and fish marks but think full moon the night before allowed them to feed so they had a bit of lockjaw- All fish caught on bottom with small trailer baits (not one bite on a 9inch bait)

Looking forward to gertting back out next week in the Bay

Just like Saturday morning, if National Weather Service calls for Small Craft Advisory from 6 am onwards for the middle bay, we will not fish. If we do not fish, we will have a public drawing at 10 am at Zimmermans.

Call me if you have any further questions any time. Kevin Smith 804 627 1575.

Well... as much as that sucks for the entrants, better safe than sorry, especially after this week of misfortune on the water.

Lottery drawing= BS Let the CCA keep the % of charitable money and refund the remainder back to the entrants I know the weather is no ones fault but this tourny has gotten smaller every year so maybe a date move would do some good:yes: Just my opinion!

suggestion: move the tnmt back a few weeks; possibly the sat. after thnksgvng, or the sat. before

that won't guarantee better wx, as we all know, but trend data through the years seem to show more favorable wx in Nov.....then there is the issue of the 'better fish' and their arrival....so anyway you do it, it will be a 'crap shoot' with that wx. and then there's those 'politics' involved in big $$ tnmts.

Why not schedule it earlier and have a stated fall back weekend in case the initial weekend is a blow out. That way the participants would be able to plan ahead for a reschedule. It might involve a good bit of logistics to make the change, but wouldn't that be better that getting 99% of the people pissed off?

I guess the draw format is a part of the rules, but it seems a little unusual that the same winning team was drawn in both the regular and corporate division. In addition, there are several other multiple draw winners in different divisions. I am no math whiz, but the chances of winning multiple draws by multiple teams must be slim. To save all the possible innuendo and speculation as to how this occured, maybe it would be better for CCA to take their "cut" of the entry fees and return the remainder to the entrants.

Very simple answer.

The first place winner of the regular division put up the aditional entry fee to also be in the Corporate division, so they win both ways.

Let's say it was a bluebird day on Saturday and all boats went fishing. The Alderman Rail Car team lands the largest fish of the tournament. They would place first among all the boats and would also have the biggest fish in the Corporate division, thus winning both first place prizes.

I understand that explanation, but how does that explain Sparks and Allen drawing 6th in the regular division and 3rd in the corporate division?

Fellow TFers & Saltwater Anglers of Northern Neck,

Let me offer the following for your review and consideration about the CCA VA:

This tournament costs the CCA VA between $25,000.00 to $30,000.00 to hold each year, even if the contestants cannot fish. This includes the money spent for advertising, rental services, prizes, beer, apparel, captains bag contents, CCA memberships for 4 entries per boat, raffle items, gift cards, etc.. Therefore this event did not add any money to the CCA VA treasury for 2009. In addition, all money in the CCA VA treasury is only spent to help protect the Saltwater Fisheries and the Marine Resources of Virginia, including Stripers, Menhaden, Crabs, Oysters, etc.. (National in Texas operates strictly on nothing but the annual dues paid by every member.)

Thanks to the support of Virginia's Saltwater Anglers and various companies across this great state, membership in the CCA Virginia has been growing steadily for more than 3 years, we have improved our management team and stabilized our financial position. This all volunteer organization has an educational exhibit that goes on the road about 10 times a year, we regularly travel the halls of the Virginia Government to fight for the rights of Virginia's Saltwater Anglers every year, our government affairs committee attends every VMRC meeting/public hearing, ASMFC meetings, etc.. and some of these folks sit on the boards of fishery organizations like these. We regularly publish an email newsletter that often advises when fishery issues are coming up and may need the attention of saltwater anglers, we mail a hard copy newsletter to members about 3 times a year (costs about $1000.00 per issue) to advise them of important issues. CCA VA helps to pay for a regional lobbyist that works on issues in Congress and the US Senate. In early January/February we plan to launch our rebuilt web site for everyone's use for a cost of about $6,00.00.

The money we raise is only used to help protect the Saltwater Fisheries and Marine Resources of Virginia, we have no paid staff at this time and everyone in a yellow hat this past weekend gave up days of their time because we care about fisheries of the Chesapeake Bay and Virginia's Tidal Rivers. The CCA VA is the only conservation organization strictly focused on maintaining sustainable saltwater fisheries for everyone in Virginia.

While having more & more members gives the saltwater fisheries of Virginia a louder voice and is very important to our efforts, if there is anyone that would like to see how the organization works, where our time, energy and money goes, you are welcome to become an active member and work side by side with us.

Here is additional information about the tournament drawings:

Entering the Corporate Division for $500.00 (approximately double a regular entry) also gets that team entred into the Regular Division. This has always been the rule. To help explain it further, Alderman Rail Car Service was the very first ticket drawn, so they win 1st place regular division and they win 1st place corporate division. The next ticket drawn was for a regular entry and therefore they won only second place in the regular division. Another example is that the last regular entry ticket drawn was for Randy Sparks of Sparks Allen and therefore his boat won 6th place regular and 3rd place corporate.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope it helps better explain our organization and the tournament drawings. If you have any further questions or comments, do not hesitate to call me at 804 627 1575.
