Sidekick and I did some Eskimo fishing today. I was a great day on the lake. We picked up some Jumbo minnows from Bobcat and headed to the lake. We drove around until we found the birds working. We dropped our lines and the fun was on. We spent the day moving from spot to spot letting the birds tell us where to fish. We ended up catching 34 stripers for the day with two of the keepers. All of them are still swimming around the lake for someone else to catch them. This was our best day ever on the lake.
I know that there are not a ton of keepers being caught but there is no doubt that there are more fish than there has been in a long time. Maybe with the number of fish that we are catching there will be a better chance that there will be more that survive though next summer and there will be more keepers.
We normally don’t catch the big one until after the first of the year. We will have to see how this year pans out.
Water temp is in the low 50's
Water in the main lake is muddy but not bad in the creeks
The bite is on!! If you can make it out you need to go have some fun.
See you on the lake next time

I went out from 2:30 -4:30 PM with the intent of going to Butcher's. Never made it that far. Birds were all around Goat Island. I chased them over to the Merifield side. I ended up with 6, no keepers. The highlight was was having quads, always fun when you are by yourself.

Nice to talk to Crawdad and Sidekick on the water. We finished the day with a total of 5 fish and at least that many missed....(trying out some circle hooks and keep forgetting to sweep instead of crossing their eye with a hook set). Either way, had a good first trip of the season and it turned into a decent day on the water. I don't do much bird chasing, but may have to give it a try sometime. We did see fishing coming out of the water in the evening in the back of Panhandle, but when we got there, they were not interested in our SS Minnows or Hopkins or big spinner bait or sassy shads.....well, you get the idea. All fish caught were from 18" to 24". They will be there next time waiting for us.
