Just got back from Avon. There was almost nothing happening. Me and my buddie caught, in three days of fishing, one small flounder, one small blue fish, one small whiting, one small croaker and a bunch of dog sharks. That's it. At The Point, however, we watched on two successive days guys pull out Sandbar Sharks of about 150 lbs each. They used kayaks to take their baits out and then waited using ultra big reels and heavy line. The bait of choice seemed to be about half a 15" fish. It didn't seem to matter what kind.
By the way I tried eating dog shark and it wasn't very good. Tasted a little sour. Plus taking the fillette out isn't easy. The skin is tough, tougth, tough.

Isn't Dog fish what the English often use in their "fish and chips?" I just so happen to be a first generation immigrant from England and have visited many times. Every fast food joint sells some sort of fish and chips and you never have any idea what you're eating because it's always fried. They most often tell you it's cod.
Then I hear there's a commercial season for dog fish on our shores and most of it goes across the big pond for fish and chips.
As for the fishing. Sorry it was slow. I think most of the stripers are staying north or well offshore for the last few years. It has been slow for the NC shore guys for a while now. What about Va waters from shore like near Va Beach or Sandbridge. Is that going to be the new surf fishing mecca now?

Aaron usually does well this time of year. He fishes NC all winter. He doesn't follow the other guides like Donny, Cato, Devin and Reese up to VA.
