I have no desire to use planer boards on my boat, but I am curious what weight lures you can use off boards. Are you mainly fishing mid and upper water column or can you use enough weight to get down deep without tripping the clip?

That all depends on what you are using to clip the lines. size of rubber band or how well the scotty clip you use will hold. I mainly fish 8 ounce and below on planers.

Everybody I know doesn't run weight on the planer lines. Not saying that you can't but I dont think many people try it. Use single and double parachutes with different weights.

That is what I meant by weight. Not things like inlines. Thanks

why not use the planner boards,, sometimes that is the only place to catch the fish,, the bigger ones dont like the sound or shadow ofthe boat and they move off,,,build one set just to try and turn into it always as you do your turns till you understand how to use it then go for the other side,,you will reap many fish from using the planners. i use 150 ft on each of mine unless its a busy day then i go back to a 75 ft line on each planner,, with the 75 you can get 4 to 5 xtra lines out there,, and its a blast once you master it. i use a tomic 745 and a 2 ounce as atandemn out about 150 feet then a 2 and a 1 ounce out 130 then 2 and a 4 tandemn mixing in the different colors and finish up with a heavy one such as a 3 and a 6 ounce tandemnout at 60 or 80 feet,,,go ahead and try it,, just make sure you try it with a good crew, maybe someone with experience,,,and in a less populated part of the bay... capt. paul reynolds:fishing2:

Heaviest I run on a single chute is 9 oz. I run a 4/7 oz tadem without any problems. I have run some beefy umbrellas off of them without any problems. Just can't do it with cheaply made boards.

I would like to try the planer boards, maybe 1 to get started, but how would you run it on an open cc. Tight it to the cleat at the bow of the boat? Anyone have similar setup or seen anything??
Thanks

You need the tie off point for the boards to be elevated as high as possible so that when you put the lines out the clips will "fall" away from the boat. If you check on the Maryland board there are some people who have made masts for them to get the desired effect. Only problem with the mast is you will need to run two boards so you do not put uneven pressure on it and snap it off.

If I try, I will definitely spend a day on a charter boat to see how it is done. I watched Carlisle Bannister's Miss Linda using them this past Monday. A big question is what do you do to avoid chaos when you hook up on several rods at the same time? Seems like with so many lines out there would be multiple foulups.
