Snoods, are they the same as a slip knot .If so, I used a slip knot on a string to hold my chicken neck and then I tied it to the bottom of my trap. However the slip knot didn't stay tight and the crab would pull it free and swim off.I know slip knots work great for Trot Lines because of the tension, keeping the bait on.I went back to useing wire to tie my necks on;but it's time consuming and I still lost baits.Any help for next season would be appreciated.

There are many ways in which to keep the chicken Neck secured to your traps. I use what is known as a stainless steel jimmie clip (basically a big safey pin) and use two wire ties to keep it attached to the trap. This way you can slid the baits on and off easily. I bought mine from Eastern Marine in Newark DE.

Here's a pic of a snood in a crab ring. (The green hose represents the bait.) It works well in traps also. It's quick, easy, and inexpensive to make and use. It will last the life of the trap and hold necks, eels, bull lips & clam bags securely. I know of only one other device made by another inventive crabber that works as well and perhaps even better, however, I do not have a pic of it.
