What do you think is/are required duties/obligations/requirements/expectations for someone who has invited you to accompany them on their boat to go crabbing with them?
Don't nit pick, just say what you would expect the minimum effort a person who invites you to go crabbing with them should be. This applies to everyone, recreational and commercial alike.
Examples:
A HOST should be expected to:
Absolutely never arrive late.
Never cancel at the last minute.
Bring his own food/drinks.
Have all gear ready and in good service.
Ensure boat is safe and seaworthy.
Add whatever you expect the boat owner/host should be willing to do.

I would have to say the host should provide all things necessary to pursure the quarry at hand in a safe manner. Host should be clear as to expectations of food/ beverages and also if he expects and compensation for gas/ gear outlays. When I host I usually just pack extra just in case. I also have plenty of water on hand. I supply all tackle/ equipment. I figure I am going to go anyway so having company is just the bonus not the servant or the cash cow.

I'd say all of the above but in addition bring enough food for all, expect to pay at LEAST a fair share of the fuel cost (the Captain has the expense of the boat, bait, etc. so when dividing up ANY cost to split leave the Capt. out - he's paying enough).
IMHO - The most IMPORTANT thing to do as a "HO" is to OFFER to share costs. Personally...I never expect any guest going with me to pay a dime but the the OFFER to do so is priceless. Having fun is more important to me.

Jerry,
I think your list is agreat start.
Safety first.
I really think you should let your invitees know what to expect. Are they going to pull traps (alternate), dip, run the boat (if they can) if you dip.ect, what to wear sun screen etc. The more they know what to expect the better. Taking someone crabbing for the first time vrs a veteran on the water is completely different.
Time you expect to be on and off the water.
I want my invitees/ friends to have a good time and enjoy the trip. Hopefully they will learn something to boot.

One thing to consider in advance is how the catch would be shared. I am a rec and usually I invite close friends or family and they are always welcome to finish the crabbing day by helping eat the crabs, and if we do reasonably well I would usually send the guest home with some leftover crabs.

After going over safety issues such as, "here are the throw cushions, here's how the boat works in case I fall in, can you swim" etc, I would recommend PATIENCE. Don't expect inexperienced crabbers to get EVERY crab. Keep it fun.
This holds true for family members too. I can still envision a trip about 15yrs ago when I brought one of my daughters (she was about 8yrs old ). I yelled at her when things got a little hectic. She cried and I felt terrible. I could have caught 20 baskets and that still would have been the worse day on the water I ever had! I vowed that day to slow down and enjoy each day on the water. We laugh about it now.
Also, I split the cost and the catch down the middle.

If invited to go on your boat, I would assume that you will be taking care of everything or telling me what to bring.
As a guest the first thing I am going to do is ask is there anything I can do or bring? I will offer to bring lunch, drinks and snacks. I will also be giving money to cover some of the expense for bait and gas.

As the Capt I would expect prior to the trip we discuss on the phone
Be it crabbing or fishing what to bring, where to meet and what time. Don’t be late I will leave without you!
1.Dress for the expected & unexpected weather that would include foul weather gear. (I do crab in the rain so be prepared)
2.As I’m a commercial crabber I’m expecting to cover the crabs that have been ordered (no guarantee the HO will be taking crabs home)
3.On my boat expect to sort crabs the (auto dipper will catch them)
4.Expect to be yelled at (almost every one will be at one time or another)
5.If you are fortunate enough to take a bushel home, I would hope you would offer to pay for the launch fee & some boat gas money. When someone invites me on their boat I’ve always paid my way.
6.As the Captain I’m responsible for the safety of everyone on board, I will go over where the safety equipment (fire extinguishers & safety vests are stored) children may be required to wear a vest. As herb indicated, what to do if XZY happens.
7.If you are fortunate enough to take crabs home don’t be surprised if on the way in I ask you to debait a line!
I fish & crab most of the time by myself, Maybe because my list is so long that is WHY!
I guess I should have posted this on the other What to expect thread..

I hear ya Dale. I guess my post was geared more toward recreational type trips. When I need to fill orders, I'll usually go by myself.
take care, see ya

This is very fair and should be acceptable to anyone that is invited.

I would expect the "host" to have everything, period. However as an invitee, I would want to offer whatever food/gear/bait/tackle that would help.
As someone who owns a boat and a bunch of gear, I prefer people to not bring their own stuff b/c it usually is duplicated stuff and takes up room.

If I'm the Host
Please understand, I do not rely on guests assisting on my boat
If you have limited experience Beth, co- owner, will be on board with us to work with you leaving me time to concentrate on my own job.
1. Be ready at the dock or pick up point
2. I expect you to have all personal gear for rain or cold if you so require
3. Bring your own food, I snack, I don't picnic while out there.
4. I will supply drinks, do not bring coolers on board
5. Expect to sort crabs and any other chore I request. Your day on the water is not just
for bird watching and picture taking
6.I will allow you to dip crabs for me but for reasons that you do not have the knack for it
I will dip all crabs.
7. Be expected to help launch and trailer boat when finished including wash down
8. I will never ask for money, you are on my boat helping me.
9. Depending on our day I will pay with crabs for your service. As I am a Commercial
Crabber I have orders to fill.
Well, You want to go with me?
