through Saturday afternoon...
A coastal Flood Watch remains in effect from Saturday morning
through Saturday afternoon.
Strengthening low pressure will move northeast along coastal
Carolinas Friday night through early Saturday... then accelerate
from the Virginia coast late Saturday into Sunday. This storm
system has the potential to produce minor to moderate coastal
flooding along the eastern facing shorelines of Hampton Roads and
middle peninsula Saturday morning and afternoon due to a period
of prolonged strong onshore flow.
Tidal departures could reach 3 to 4 ft above mean lower low
water... which would produce moderate tidal flooding. High tide
Saturday morning at Sewells Point is 10:43 with an expected water
level between 6.0 ft and 7.0 ft. At Virginia Beach high tide
Saturday morning is at 9:09 am with an expected water level
between 6.0 and 7.0 ft.
In comparison... the water level during the November noreaster
reached 7.75 ft at Sewells Point. Severe flooding at Sewells Point
starts at 7.1 ft MLLW.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A coastal Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for
flooding are expected to develop. Coastal residents should be
alert for later statements or warnings... and take action to
protect property.
