Went out yesterday about 10am, trolled between Ragged Point and Piney Point gas docks. Nine rod spead, one knock down, fish got off. Tried different types of lures and colors, couldn't get anything going. Umbrellas, mojos, tandems, storm shad on planer. Still a great day to be out on the river, final trip of 2009 for me.

Last tuesday, same area, caught 15 fish, with four friends on the boat, released 5 that were over 40 inches, all released were in the 40"-43", kept 10 small fish from 22"-33". Eight of the nine rods caught fish. Just for fun, I threw a big popper wayback and put that in the spread, within 5 minutes, the 43" fish hit it. Last Tuesday, foggy and flat calm.

Going to Key West next week for 10 days of fishing fun in the sun, beaches, boats and bars.

Thanks for the report. I think this colder snap has given them lockjaw...at least for a few days. I bet a decent might may occur tomorrow before this next low pressure/front comes through, I just can't get out till this weekend when its forcast to blow. Oh well.
Have fun in KW. Caught my first Amberjack and King there back in April. My second trip there. Love that place. Got two charter recommendations...our giude that day was Capt Brad Simonds on the Southpaw and his mate Lee on the Conchubine.

I'm heading to Islamorada the first week of January. I'm taking my boat since the house we rented has a private slip. Our plan is just to do some inshore and reef fishing. Any tips? I figured I could fish early and do family time in the afternoon since they all like to sleep in until noon.

Luv2fish, Not as familiar with Islamorada but at KW we ran south only about 8 to 12 miles to the reef, 80-90 feet of water, anchored up and chummed up nice yellowtail snaps to 4-6 lbs., and the King hit a livie on the drop down. A couple of small grouper on live baits on the bottom too. The AJ's came from stopping over a wreck a little farther out and dropping livies down, the baddest, hardest fight I ever had. Thats all I've got. Good luck.
